shaloow dof !

That is all you get when shooting shutter speed 200, ISO 100, at F-11 or F-8. It is the nature of the beast, nothing can change that unless you focus stack more than one picture. Macro is VERY hard. I am speaking of true macro of 1:1 or greater, not the little flower thing on some cameras.

Yep, the DOF is about as thin as a piece of paper. All you need in focus is the eyes. This particular picture he kept moving his little things that feed his mouth so they could not be in focus because the were constantly moving. DOF on a full frame sensor is harder than a cropped camera such as a 40D. The only good thing is that with a higher mega pixel you can crop it down but I am not used to doing that and it seems like cheating.

I just gave the wife my 40D so it looks like I am going to have to cowboy up and make due with what I have.:hillbilly:

Cool pic, the eye detail. Every time you move up the learning curve gets a little deeper at least it does for me. You'll be shooting like a pro in no time :) I'm trying to learn the post processing aspect with elements 8 you can make magic if you know what you're doing which I don't :meh: I hope to take a few classes so I can take better pics on our club trips and learn from Jon when he gets back. Maybe he'll let carry his bags when he shoots the models so I can learn something :D

I played with this one last night
Man on horse 3.jpg

Looks good Larry. I like all of the action the horse is portraying.

I took a lesson in shooting a while back and it did help just a tad. The thing for me is to shoot everyday. Even when you don't feel like it. Not just the practice but getting a feel for the weight and pressing the shutter without flinching.

Hey Jon, you think your models would mind if you have four or five apprentices helping when you shoot them? I have a camera on my phone that I can use.

Thanks, he was at a gallop when I took it. I agree on the practice what I hope to get out of a class is learning to train my eye on what to look for and learn more on lighting when to fill and not to fill.

So I was not happy with any of the diffusers on the market and decided to make one last night. Please don't laugh too hard but this thing works great! It works better than anything I have tried. You don't even need a full charge on your flash because of the reflection off of the inside of the can you can shoot while it is still charging up. Also I had some diet coke left over from a party and we don't drink the stuff. I know you guys don't normally shoot macro but it works awesome for portraits as well. Not pictured is the paper towels that I wrap around the end. You can use different layers of paper towels depending on how far away your subject is. I recommend using scotch tape for the paper towel instead of duct tape.

Some people have to much time on there hands that's for sure, good job by the way.

It beats wearing purple gloves. And besides, diffusers are expensive. This one cost about 1 dollar.

Nice! Isaac:clap:

does that price include labor?

will it work with :beer:cans as well & if so still bout the same$

lets C some pic comparisons yours & the store bought

That's pretty ingenious

Well I usally delete my "blown out or messed up pics but here are two that are used with the -coke can mod-. Thse hoverflies are less than 1/4 of an inch. In about one month I will get better shots when they grow to around 3/4ths of an inch.

I have been chasing dragonflies for 2 years now and I finally got a decent shot of one yesterday. I had to use a pretty strong flash to try and cancel out the sunlight. It was during the middle of the day.

Good shot on dragon fly:clap:
