You can cross thread that petcock pretty easily and then have issues so the hose is the smart move. If you use a razor blade and cut lengthwise along the hose you can get it off easy. Putting a new hose on is much easier.

another thing to note is it is on facing back toward the engine not facing forward you will have to reach over the crossmember for the frame about 3 inches to feel where the hose connection is and then just go an inch over in the direction of the battery and you will feel it there.
