Hey guys!

I was looking for any advice on a parts list to redo the birfields on my front axle. Was thinking of tackling it at the wrenching weekend in August so I can "lean" on fellow members that have done this already.

Mine is not only leaking grease out of the driver's side, but also what looks like diff fluid, so I'm thinking the inner seal is leaking as well.

Are there any complete kits out there, or anyone that would be willing to shoot me a complete parts list?

Thanks!

Mike

Agreed. I need to pick up another kit from him, too. Last time we ordered 4 at once, and saved on shipping, and got a price break.

Note: Inner seal, use Toyota, not Marlin.

It is also the time to swap out your brake rotor if there is any sign of warpage or thickness issues. It is not real easy to get to normally, but is real easy during the axle work.

Almost forgot, you also need to decide on what type of grease you will use. There are lots of threads out there on what is best. I think 5% moly is the oem recommended.

Thanks Colin and Kelly!!!

Kelly: let me know if you think we have any other "takers" that would warrant another discount. I'm definitely going to pull the trigger on the kit (including koyo bearings), but can wait a little if needed. Thanks for the rotor advice too...I'm thinking of going ahead with new calipers as well. My rear passenger was seized pretty good when I last changed pads, so I've been planning on replacing all 4 eventually.

Thanks again!

Mike

Axle was talking about doing his. Anyone else?

Oh, calipers and rotors, wait for one of those coupons for advance auto parts. $50 off 100 works really well!

Thinking about it for my 40 if I don't get around to it before then. Already got my parts though, and pretty sure they came from Kurt.

Believe it or not, I won't be wrenching at the wrench party (unless I still haven't done my rear brakes by then), so I'm happy to lend a hand where I can. Erik and Rob both helped me when I took on that task and I should have a few pics to help document what happened.

Buy lots and lots of shop towels. Kitty litter may help keep Kelly's driveway nice too. Or some cardboard to put down

Take Kelly's advice on the Toyota inner seals. I purchased those on mine... I think I dealt with Curt to buy my kit and it came out quite nicely.

Good deal, thanks Jack! Yep, I'm locked up front. I have the huge repair manual that looks like a couple of Bibles glued together, so I'm going to read through that, and check out some videos that are out there as well.

With Lockers are no different than non locked. All that magic is in the center diff.

Found these videos on youtube (part 1 and part 2) that show a pretty excellent walk through. I'm going to study up before hand for sure.

note: I have a parts cleaner tub, and should have 5 gallons of paint thinner. May need a few more gallons to top it off.

I'll be sure to bring a few more gallons for sure then.

I need to rebuild too probably will not be running by then but might as well get the parts. To add to my rotors that are sitting in the basement. I went with a slotted rotor(not drilled). We'll see how they holdup

Well, driver side blew on me this afternoon. Limped it home and the whole hub was smoking! Not going to be able to wait until wrenching weekend...but I can always help anyone else that is tackling it!

Gonna have to buy the parts tomorrow. Let me know if anyone wants to jump in together!

Do you already have a re-seal kit from cruiseroutfitters ? If not and its super important and you have a second vehicle you could come to Topeka and get one of mine. I can just order another one at a later time from Kurt.
