Hoping someone could help me out, I have tried and replaced the obvious stuff. One day doing a quick errand at Home Depot my 97 LC decided just to not start again. It has full voltage, cranks, and really wants to go but seemingly didn't have fuel (couldn't hear the fuel pump kick on). I was able to knock the fuel pump a few times while cranking and got it home. I promptly replaced the fuel pump and thought I was good to go. While all this was happening I had also been getting a random cylinder misfire every 1,000 or so miles, so I had also recently replaced plugs, wires, rotor, and distributor cap. That didn't fix that and it was then throwing a code for random misfire and cylinder 5 misfire. I replaced the fuel injector for just cylinder 5 and again thought I was good. Drove good for a few days till today where it did the same no start condition. At least this time I was stuck at the beach. I was able to just let it crank for a while until it turned over but I need to fix the underlying issue.
To recap: no start with strong crank, replaced fuel pump. "Unrelated" also had a random cylinder misfire replaced plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. I am thinking it is the fuel pump relay or a crank relay? Honestly I am kinda lost a little help would be greatly appreciated!

In regards to the crank-no start, do you get a check engine light with the key in the ON position before cranking the starter?
I believe the CEL is on when in ON position, but I could be wrong, it was on today and she turned over. So now it is an intermittent problem which could randomly leave me stuck, so that's awesome

I had that crank no start issue once and it turned out to be the fuel pump relay
How did you track that down? Since this is an intermittent issue I don't have a good way of testing until it randomly happens again

Does the truck not want to start after driving it to your destination , parking for a brief period (still warm)? Does it start just fine when it’s a cold start?
Seemingly yes? First time was a 5 minute pop in to Home Depot then didn't start, then second time was maybe an hour lunch surf then didn't start so still warm. I left it for the weekend and just tried to turn it over, which it struggled then started and will not start with no issues (for now)

im currently chasing down a similar problem that no one seems to have an answer to. I’ve tried replacing the fuel filter and fuel pump resistor to no avail. I’ve also tried raising the fuel pressure with no luck.

Mine is currently being taken apart and I’m throwing bunch of parts at it.

Based on what I’m reading though, I think it’s a bad VSV.

Just to provide an update, I resolved the problem and am posting because it would have been the last place I would check so hopefully this could help someone. The ol' girl stuck me again on my lunch break surf, I eventually got it started but while I was playing with it I checked the live info on the OB2, turns out the computer temp sensor thought it was -40F and was basically flooding the engine. It was giving intermitted good readings which is why it would typically start. Replaced that sensor for $30 and no more issues
