Tower of murder baby.
I'm going to be heading to seattle in a couple weeks, and I'll have my old Aqualu tub in the back of the truck.

what do you think is going to happen at customs with that ? I'll make sure it looks crappy when I go through...can say it isn' t worth much, but may depend on the guard I guess.

I'll also be returning with something rather cool...:grinpimp: :grinpimp: but I think it should be ok, as it's just a 30 year old truck bed....:grinpimp:

thanks,
ryan

Tell them you're selling it for less than 200.00 us and you don'thave to worry about import duties if you think they'll believe that price . What are you bringing back ? 45 box ? I just moved over from van ,living in Saltair give me a shout we can BS . I just brought two 45 frames back from California -No problem.

Hey, for sure we should meet up and have a beer and a bs ! I'm in the midst of a glorious frame repair right now, kinda sucks to do, but should be strong as hell when I'm done, and hopefully not be obvious that I fixed it.

and yep, found a 45 box, on a bit of a fluke, I was all set to start building a "faux baux" (haha) from scratch.

hopefully it'll be on the road by christmas, and the 70 can get a much needed refresher.

as for the border, yeah, I'll try to play it off as being worth bugger all, and see what happens, not much else I can do really.

worst case scenario I have to pay a bit to get across, I couldn't remember what the deal was with car parts, whether they were exempt from duties if they're of a certain age or what.

cheers,
ryan

I think antique car parts are exempt, try to play that card maybe?
Cheers,
Deny

you should be able to find all the answers yiou need on the customs web site... The hard part is finding the information on it... http://cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/menu-e.html

The other thing is they have a toll free number to call to ask your questions...

From the items I have been importing I can tell you if they fall under the free trade agreement there are no duties but you have to pay PST and GST on the invoice value... If you don't have an invoice it will take you a long time to clear them throw customs and if they can find the part on the web will bill you at the value they find there... or ask you to get the invoice before releasing the product... Even a hand writen Invoice with the full information of the seller will work.

If you dont have an invoice you are asking for a rough day. When I picked up my traction bar at Ship Happens in Sumas, going through the border I declared it, got sent into the building, where they then asked to see my invoice.
Well, I didnt have one. To make a long story short, I had a customs agent who was in a good mood and let me go with a stern warning and let me pay what I said it was worth. Ordinarily one would have to take it back into the US and leave it there until you can come up with an invoice of some kind.

I had a scenario like that a while back when I bought an International 14 skiff back from the states, had a hand written receipt, and it sorta worked.

annoying part was the border guy with a scottish accent so thick I couldn't understand him. made me wish my french was better....

man that's a confusing website customs has...the us one is even worse...

ah well fxxxit.

guess I'll write up a reciept of some sort and see what happens.

well , if anyone cares, it all went smoothly.

I told them it was a landcruiser body tub, and was worth a thousand bucks, he asked " that's it ??? " about three times haha, but I figgered that was a reasonable statement of value, third of new, and it didn't look terribly pretty with peeling paint.

he charged me a whopping 5 dollars for a user fee, because I was selling it. and thats it.

surprized me, I was fully expecting to pay a hundred bucks in duty, but I'll take it.

on the way home, I got the same miserable sheepshagging scottish guy at the border, but we showed him a reciept which he glared at for several minutes, and let us go.

good day all in all, got everything I need for the 45, and even a spare tailgate...

cheers,
ryan
