The paint booth belongs to a friend of mine he has two of those side by side they are at an auto auction, they use them to refurbish used cars before auctions, cheers, Larry

your lucky to have that friend. I could only dream of a booth like that to play in :)

very nice paint job.

Thes guys are all to nice... That job looks pretty bad, in truth... You need to ship the 40 to me and I will dispose of it for you..

Yeah, I know it's an old saying and post but I had to say it.

I had a red 80 Fj40 and I bang my head against the wall every time I think "why did I sell that beauty"?

Really nice job abd a great looking rig!

Finished assembly except paki soft top/too hot for it yet, new seats and covers on the jump seats yet to come.

Man, it looks like you could dive right into that paint! There is no beating a RED cruiser. Very nice.

AMAZING! Great job man, that looks simply fantastic!

Are those stealth tube fenders? What kind of paint did you shoot? Prep coats? Any details would be great!

Those are Metal Tech tube fenders for stock location and sliders and trim as well, Paint is single stage, PPG, new quarters and rear sill, sanded and then 4 coats of primer after a coat of sealer, blocked the whole thing down, one more coat of primer on the tub, hood and fenders then blocked again, then another coat of sealer 4 coats of paint, the prep and paint took a week, that included the assembly of the tube fenders, more work than I wanted in 100 degree weather, the hinges are all powder coated, the sliders were hot dip coated, I'll try to take a pic with the seats, also lined the interior.

Larry-

COuld you hit me up with a pic of your tube fenders straight on from the side, so I can see how much room you gain?

Looks sweet!

Thanks Larry, very cool truck, did you do the work (body work) Did you go as far down as the metal? Did you use guidecoats to smooth it out? I would love to hear your process. That is one of the nicest paint jobs on a cruiser I have ever seen. Thanks for sharing!

Drew

Yes I did all the body work and prep, I talked a good painter into spraying the paint, you can't beat experience, I have painted some others, but I wanted a great finish on this one. I used guide coat with the initial sanding to identify the low spots and where there would be donuts etc, so we knew where to put thick coats of primer to block down, I used it ofter the priming to tell when it was blocked enough and where more work needed to be done, I didn't take it all to bare metal, the original paint was still on it so in some places we went to original primer, there were lots of bare metal spots, the quarters were new steel and the rear sill was new as well so they were bare metal, we used an acid etched primer on the bare steel before the sealer was applied just for a little security, but with all the blocking it took very little filler on the weld seams where metal was replaced, I had to rebuild the gas tank pan and patched a lot of spots in the bed, but I think it turned out pretty good, thanks for the compliments, Larry
