Markieboys wagon

Hi. I have a 65FJ45LV. Nearing the end of Resto. I hope! Still lots of mechanical and electrical to do. I need to get it from Atlanta to TLC Jonathan Ward. Anyone going that way? Looking for the window squeegees and guides. Also need to pay in to get rear tail light gaskets made. Anyone yet working on it?
New Vortec, New 700R auto, new 4wheel disc brakes. I know the purists may "BIlly Idol" but I am building it for ME! Every part has been remanufactured, rechromed, rezinced, rebuilt, painted. Its a new truck. I want a new ride with the retro feel. I have my FJ40 for playing in. A
Anybody have an extra 65 gold tag. The bodyshop lost mine. Thanks.

I recently bought this from cruiserbrett. Came with PS,front discs, low mile 2f, 4spd, PTO winch. I recently installed the headache rack (yes it's from a hilux), OME suspension, spare. Tomorrow I will start a frame-off to deal with rust. I plan to install ARB lockers, rhino line bed, sand blast everything and epoxy primer, frame might get powder coat.

Help!!!

Hello, I'm a British Columbia Cruiser head. I own a 1980 FJ45 Long Wheel Base. I have a major problem with the 2F Motor (due to my own stupidity) and seeking advice. I believe the Block is cracked. Now, I'm wondering if it is worth looking for a 2F or would it be fairly resonable to switch it to a 3B Diesel. Or is it worth selling. It has Brand new Master brake cylinder. Any Reply would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. Mine is a 1967 LPB. It was brought into the USA new through a dealer in Southern California. I have the original owner's manual and brochures that came with it. It spent the first twenty-odd years of its life on a ranch mostly, whence my neighbor bought it from the nephew of the deceased ranch owner. My neighbor had it on a deer lease, so mostly it just sat. Ten years ago, when he had three kids in college simultaneously, he needed cash, so he bailed on the deer lease and had this truck with no home, and I took it off his hands. He didn't want to sell it to me because he thought the upkeep would anger me and destroy our friendship, but his wife was more than eager to part with title for a small amount of cash.

Here are a couple of "before" pix. I hope the pix post, as I've never used the utility before. When I get time, I'll post some "after" pix. Restoration is 99% complete; the punch list is about half a dozen items.

Cheers.

Do you have the original window sticker. Always wondered what these things sold for at the dealer. Anyone chime in if you have a sticker for the 65-67 Years LWB Pickups.

Sorry, I don't have the window sticker, but I do have price information.

The dealer was John A. Rose Imports, 5921 Fairmount Avenue, San Diego 20, CA (before zip codes!).

Part of Toyota's documentation was a reprint of a Road Test magazine ("The Factual Automotive Guide / Contains No Advertising") article on the FJ40 (Road Test Volume 2, Number 5, September, 1966). The article also provided numbers for the Jeep CJ-6, Jeep CJ-5, International Scout, Land Rover, and Ford Bronco. Base list prices (West Coast, including delivery and handling), which assumed "the bigger brakes on the Jeep, four wheel limited slip, selective hubs, and widest available rims with largest cross section tires regularly fitted," were:
Jeep CJ-5: $2,282
Jeep CJ-6: $2,472
IH Scout: $2,053
FJ40 (hardtop): $3,085
Rover: $2,693
Bronco: $2,561

The article rated the FJ40 best overall due to "its superior power and type of power, its comfortable adjustable seats and high cruising speed and its strong construction." It rated a 10 out of 10 for backcountry use, the only one to do so. One quote from the article sums it up: "The Toyota is able to out-climb, out-maneuver, out-pull, and out-run any of the 4-WD vehicles in this report. From a performance standpoint, it is considerably better than its American or English competitors. In the area of comfort, the Toyota is hard to equal."

Hope this helps.

Cheers.

Here is some more history on my truck. Neither the engine nor the paint were original, but it ran decently. One unique feature was the glove box, which had a big rectangular hole cut out around the door. See picture below.

After driving it for a few years, I took it to a local mechanic in Austin (who will remain unidentified) who worked only on Cruisers and had him install OME springs and shocks and do a little work on the carb, which had a linkage from an 1862 Conestoga wagon, I think. ;p
Anyway, he kept the truck for a very long time, to the point where I had to demand my truck back. When I drove it home, it overheated, and I mean badly. Engine lost power, yada yada. I didn't want to take it back to the guy because he hadn't done a sterling job, so I limped it home and tore into it myself. Long story short, the mechanic had painted the engine but had left the plugs exposed. So the plugs were painted; imagine the conductivity of a plug-to-plug-wire contact with the plug painted. Suspecting burnt valves, I pulled the head and had it magnafluxed. Two cylinders had forests of cracks around the exhaust valves, one cylinder had one big crack. See below for a shot of the engine with the head just sitting on it. Notice the header, which was altered to fit the exhaust port configuration. It had a glass pack, too.

So it seemed like a good time to have the frame and body restored with some updating of critical systems. I found CCOT to be responsive but only willing to purchase the truck and then sell me a restored one. I called and emailed TLC4x4 with some details of what I wanted; they never responded. Finally I had some very pleasant email and phone traffic with Proffitts and we agreed on a frame-off with the following: blasted and powder-coated frame, RamJet350 crate engine, TH700R4, Orion 4:1, aluminum radiator, ceramic headers, fine-spline diffs, ARB air lockers front and rear, Saginaw PS with GM pump, 4-wheel discs, 35" tires on alloys, Bilsteins, some shackle beef for the OMEs, liner in and under bed and cab, locking console with Pioneer radio/CD/MP3 player, Corbeau racing seats with 4-point harnesses, Grant GT marine steering wheel, A/C, Warn winch, new front bumper, DeeCee tool box, receiver hitch, and a few other odds and ends I'm forgetting. Oh yeah, my son would never let me forget the paint; he picked the codes for rosso corsa and biance niva (that's Ferrari red and Ferrari snow white). A pic of the rolling frame is below. I'll post others in separate postings.

Cheers.
