you know whatever we call the hydrocarbon tester... I always say exhaust gasses which i apologize as it's not correct.

how does one do this test, seriously, i have no idea. is this accomplished with an oil anaylist?
 
No.. you startup the vehicle and it needs to be warm so the t-stat is open then you just take a small sample of coolant and add some chemical liquid that comes in the package to it. If it changes color to what is on the strip in the package you have hydrocarbons in the coolant which basically means you have a cracked head or a bad head gasket.combustion leak tester
