Hello LC community,
I was installing a Sony multimedia screen in my 2000 LC. All went well except that I noticed the Outside Temperature reading in the center display is blank. Clock is there and the word "Outside" is also displayed but the temperature digits are gone. One thing I did during the install is I unplugged the antenna motor connector under the right fender to disable the up/down motion of the antenna. Checking on the web I saw something that said the same connector is for the signal of outside temperature, so I plugged it back in. Still no temperature.

Would anyone offer a suggestion how to investigate?

Thanks

Hello, would anyone know how the outside temperature gets measured and fed into the display. Thanks for any help.

Maybe this?

Looks like the THERMISTOR COOLER (AMBIENT TEMP. SENSOR) is somewhere behind the front bumper. per the parts diagram.

I believe the sensor is located right in front of the transmission fluid cooler.

Thank you for your responses. I will investigate if the thermistor is shot or it's something else.

The screen install you mentioned, it doesn't replace the stock head unit? Just looking at the pic provided.

If you did need to work behind the dash/remove radio etc. , seems too coincidental to me... I'd check there first. Make need unplug, reseat, wiggle, etc.

I did replace the factory radio with a brand new Sony XAV-AX6000 multimedia from Crutchfield. But I did not like it. The audio was awesome but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screens were kinda washed out, not crisp and contrasty, and you cannot set the brightness and contrast in settings - you can only set the dimmer % which does not do the trick. I paid close to $650 on sale for the unit and was not impressed, so I returned it. Now, I'm searching for a better unit, maybe they are all like this.

Back to the temperature blank issue. there is nothing complicated in the back of the radio - only one 20 pin plug and 2 antennas. So I must have broken something inside the fender when I unplugged the Antenna plug.

Plug the connector back up to the antenna motor and see if it comes back... I'm wondering since the antenna up/down button is right next to the temp display, the wiring for antenna circuit may power that part of the display? Just guessing here.

Just for giggles here, have you disconnected the battery for a bit to reset everything?

You know what…. No I haven’t. I figured since I had cables disconnected I didn’t need to. But you lit a bulb. It could be the ECM or something. I’ll disconnect and see. Thanks for the idea.

Anything to report on this?

I disconnected the battery negative, waited a while, then reconnected it and checked again. Still the same. No temperature reading.

My LC has 198K original miles on it (bought it brand new), it is still in awesome shape body and mechanical. I am thinking of taking it to the dealer to check it out. I ran out of ideas. Will decide in couple days.

I'll post back here with the updates.
