Well, look what I found. I just recently purchased this exact fj45. Was going through the forums, and stumbled across this posting of my now truck. I think that I purchased it from the guys that purchased it in 2019 out from under BlackAura.

I can tell you he didn't drive it much or take care of it mechanically. Good bit of work ahead. At least the body is in good condition.

First order of business: Carb rebuild and fluid changes. (already had to change the Clutch MC and slave, as will as the fuel pump, just to get it drivable). As an owner of a 200 for a few years now, glad to add a 45 to the stable.

If you are the gentleman who left the voicemail this morning, sorry I couldn’t get back to you before closing up for the holiday. I was on a mission to clear the deck before I left.

A 1963 carb that was rode hard, literally put away wet, but still able to be restored.

I will call you back on Monday.😊

Great detective work, it was indeed. Take you time enjoy the holidays.

It's been a while, but I've been busy tackling quite a bit of deferred maintenance left behind by the previous owner. Here is an update since installing the Clutch MC and fuel pump.

Carburetor:
I sent the carburetor out to @65swb45 for a rebuild — Mark did a great job! At some point, likely during the restoration in the early 2000s, thinking around 2008 or so from this info in this thread, the entire engine was rattle-canned black, carb included. So he had a hell of a time getting it cleaned up and back to looking like it should.

Knuckle Rebuild:
While the carb was out in CA and the truck was undrivable, I took the opportunity to rebuild the front knuckles, as what I can only assume was 18-year-old grease had been seeping out and running down the inside of the tires. Used the FA7590 kit from Cruiser Tep with the Koyo Wheel Bearing Set. Replace the studs and all the hardware with OEM, and painted with POR 15 to make it pop and last. Wish I would have rebuilt the free hub locker, but perhaps during the next brake shoe replacement.

Front Brake Lines:
Since I had everything apart, I replaced all the front rubber lines and made new hard brake lines using copper-nickel line and stainless steel fittings from the Stop Shop. The only setback was a persistent leak at the Y-split connection heading to the driver's side. The existing fitting was 18mm long while the Stop Shop fitting was 16mm, so I couldn't get it to seat properly. After making three lines, thinking it was the fitting some how, I decided to just reuse one of the old fittings. I didn't make this move before, as the wrench head was stripped on several of the ones I pulled off the old lines. I found one that had a somewhat decent head, and made the 4th line. After a few miles no leak.

Line:
Fittings:

Going to keep this thread going as a progress thread for the truck. I'll post some updates and things move on.

Awesome!
I will say, the mismatch and no standarization of brake parts drives me nuts with older cars...I feel you

When Toyota started installing full floating axles in 1975 they had heavier brake drums on those. They had matching front drum brakes. 8/80 Toyota did standardized brakes. During the 1980s the 40/60/70 series drum brakes were the same. My first rear full floating axle was early style with cooling fins on the drums. Sold that one and only have later style FF with drum brakes. Because the 60 series were sold here all thru the 1980s parts are much easier to get.
