Tell me what you guys think - 1 Owner TX truck, 105K miles, all service done at dealer with records, according to owner, these are the only defects in addition to some bumper smudges, but that is a given - other than this it is perfect - according to the owner, and he seems like an honest guy. Sent me a long detailed email as opposed to the 1 sentence most people reply with about their so called babied truck. He is asking 21K and stated that he is selling because he bought an LS430, and the dealer told him it was one of the cleanest of this model year he had seen. He says he treats the seats with the lexus cleaner stuff and generally takes excellent care of it - Opinions are appreciated!!

sorry - it's an 02. Yeah, I started looking at the downside of the peak in gas prices. One guy raised the price of his by 700 bucks and when I asked, he said it was because of gas prices. Did you get service records and everything with that one you got? To me, the service records are def. worth something.

If it's in Houston, I'd be happy to go look at it for you.

The price is extremely cheap. If it's that nice, it would bring more at a wholesale auction.

Wow man - that would be great!! It is in Houston, actually - probably in a suburb. He takes it to West Side Lexus I think it is. If you are serious that would seriously rock.

Wait a minute - typo on my side - it is actually an 00 model, so it probably isn't that great of a price.

Does anyone know if the seat can be repaired, and if so, how much it might cost?

Be sure to check out the undercarriage for surface rust...

Uhhh... yeah. 21K is not so hot then. I'd say it's average to a tad high. Especially for a non-nav year.

I'll see what i can do over the phone to get him down on the price - what do you think is a fair price? I think the "good" kbb on it is 18 something, but it appears to be better than good. Were you serious about checking it out?

Get a recommendation from a Lexus dealership for fixing the seat, then compare price. It seems high for a 2000. Only about 3% make the top category in KBB, and this 2000 would not make it with the repairs indicated. $18K might be negotiable.

I wouldn't fix the seat. I'd lurk on eBay until someone sold a seat and just do a complete replacement. The problem with it tearing like that is that you either have to hem it in, or replace the two panels and hope for a good match in material and color (unlikely).

Did you check the service history for the infamous 90K?

Well, hopefully I didn't pay too much but, I just bought a 2000 with 78K for $21.8k same color in VERY good condition. I'm also getting a FREE new AHC pump installed :D

Installing your own (aftermarket) leather seat cover may be problematic if the vehicle has side air bags, as they are built into the front seats and the OEM leather is designed to allow proper air bag deployment. Just thought I'd mention this. I don't think you can get the OEM leather in just two panels; I think it's the entire seat or nothing. If it were a Lexus dealer, you could have them replace it gratis as one condition of sale.

BTW, once you get your rig, apply liberal amounts of leatherique to help ensure the leather is soft & supple, especially at the seams. I have both the Lexus leather cleaner/conditioner and leatherique rejuvenator and the cleaner. I normally use the leatherique, but just carry the Lexus cleaner in the rear cubby w/ a rag in case of a spill while on the road.

Well, I can't get the seller to budge on the price. Says 21K is the least he'll take for it, otherwise he'll just keep it in his garage. Apparently he has the money to hang on to the truck. He has always bought Lexus vehicles and has a long list of all the ones he has owned so he apparently has the means to keep this one as well - isn't a "motivated seller" by any means, but as I said, seems like a good guy who isn't being a jerk about it at all. I discussed maint. with him again, as some think "maintenance" means just changing the oil and not doing what the Toyota manual suggests, and he clarified that he in fact did everything for the "severe duty" even if the dealer claimed it didn't need to be done at that time. Told me to call a local lexus dealer to pull the records if I was interested in getting the details locally to confirm. He is getting the leather fixed at the dealership this weekend, so apparently it is repairable. Man, I just don't know what to do. I have a couple of cruisers in Birmingham and near Atlanta that I have on my list, but they are about the same price. 1 is an 01 no nav for 21K with 86K - full records, the other is an 02 w/nav with 95K for 22k with full records as well. I would really rather have a cruiser, but with the price being near the same for similiar trucks, it almost seems foolish not to get the LX for the extra stuff it offers. I'm usually VERY good at shopping for a deal and finding good trucks, but these trucks are relatively rare which makes it more difficult.

aedgington - if you are serious about going to check out the truck, please let me know. He is in Sugarland, and I can give you his number. I'm not sure what would be considered standard compensation for your time to look at it for me, but let me know what you would like and maybe we can work something out.

Thanks to everyone again. Forums like this are what life is about - relationships - even if I don't know any of you personally -

chuckb - did you have Service records for the truck? Did you buy from a dealer? Does it have many defects? Just trying to guage current market value.

I don't mind paying more than kbb says I should for condition/service as I don't plan on selling until the value has bottomed out - if I sell it at all. Once it becomes old I'll just take it over as mine and have fun with it. I like old stuff anyway. Have an 81 Diesel Mercedes wagon that is awesome.

ok - I'll do that. That will be great. Let me know how far you drive and I'll paypal you some gas $$ at least. If it is in anyway inconvenient for you, plz don't put yourself out.

I bought it from Mercedes Benz of Honolulu, it was a trade in for a MB. It doesn't have records or even an owner's manual, but I plan on trying to pull the service history from the Lexus dealer which is right across the street from MB. There were some small nicks on the front bumper but other than that it was clean. I'll post some picts as soon as I get it back from the shop. They are still waiting for the AHC parts to come by boat from the mainland... something about it being HAZMAT and they couldn't fly it... hopefully Monday I'll have it back. HTH
