Hello all, brand new 80 series owner here. I recently found out the hard way that one of my hood latches wasnt shutting due to some grime that had built up in the mechanism (has since been fixed). Recently, I was driving roughly 20 mph and my hood flew up and back down. Ever since, every time I open my hood the back of it presses against the cowl and makes a loud popping noise and has been chipping the paint. Ive attached a video. I have tried every adjustment point for the hood, inserted washers to raise the hood slightly, and worked at bending the lower lip of the cowl which seems to be pretty mangled. I can move the hood forward and it works fine, but then the latch doesnt activate and the body lines dont line up. I believe the center of the hood may be depressed. Any advice?

here is the video!

+1 on a new "used" hood

But before buying a new hood, try adding hood risers from @Outsane (solvefunction). This hood risers raises the rear of the hood by .5" or so. This might help and is cheaper than sourcing a hood.
The purpose of the hood risers is to let hot air escape out the engine bay while in traffic or in a slow crawl.

Thanks for the suggestion, I may give that a try.

Depending on your desired outcome, condition of the rig, bodywork skill, etc. you can likely also bend it back to the point that it doesn't catch any more. If the damage is minor you may even be able to get it back to "right" where it matches its previous shape with nice alignment all the way around.

If you can get it back up, by helping lift that rear edge in the middle so that it doesn't snag, then you can try ways to re-bend it in place or remove it to massage it back into shape off the truck based on what's easier and more in line with how nice the rig is, etc.

Even with the risers you may still want to get it closer to it's correct shape so that the gap between the rear edge and cowl is more even.

Solution!

Got it working off of a suggestion from facebook to insert a piece of wood- i used a 1x6- in between the hood and cowl and slowly work the dent out. Worked great. Thanks for all the replies!
