Guess it depends on your perception, while perhaps tacky I did not equate it to a villain in a movie.

I was born in Philadelphia, it's an in your face kinda sports town. Seemed fine to me.

It's not just an in your face kinda sports town, it's an in your face kind of town :).....

We moved to the country when I was 4 so I did not grow up in the city culture. But you are correct. There is an edge, only place I ever heard of where people fist fight over parking spots they shoveled.

Yep, been there, lived there, don't need to go back at this point in my life :)

I am right there with you. I moved away in 95, no desire to ever move back. Mom still lives there and we visit. The area where I grew up was country, 30 miles N of the city. The city has come out and swallowed up the whole area. I rode my bike 3.5 miles to middle school some times. Only crossed one county road, the rest we little country roads and trails through woods and along farm fields. All filled in with housing now. Strip malls all over the place.

Where I live now is how it was when I grew up. I see farm equipment roll by out front all the time :) I am surrounded by farms

I totally understand about in your face sports, but at the end of the day he's swimming. Is he the best swimmer in the world? Without a doubt, but he's just a fantastic swimmer, that's it. Besides that he's representing our country not the Eagles or the Sixers. I'm sure it's easy to start believing your own hype with that much media attention but the reality is the vast majority of the population only gives a crap about swimming once every 4 years.

Myself included. Heather and I are both Olympics junkies. Neither of us follow any other kind of sports so every two years you will find us glued to coverage for two weeks.

The thing with Phelps was the conclusion to two days of the Aussie that beat him a few years back taunting him trying to get in his head. He came back and posted two more gold medals. We live in a different age now where humility and humble have little place in any sports. The folks in beach volleyball have been taunting each other for years, looks like it is rubbing off.

As far as athletes giving crap to other athletes that have been banned for doping that are bragging You Bet!!!!

I grew up in AA baseball & basketball, if you did anything remotely unsportsmanlike you got to ride the bench a while for some introspective thought

I absolutely love the olympics also, I really hated missing the opening ceremony and first 2 days on the Hurricane creek trip. I get the fact about him getting back at Le Cloe for all his junk talk but I like the olympics so much I hate to see it get infiltrated with the normal trash talking that goes along with most professional sports, I had hoped he would have been better than that while representing our country. You are 100% correct about the trash talking this day and age, guess it's just a sign of the times.

The videos online about how brazen the thief's are there ridiculous. Some of them just need an asswhipping of epic proportions. the child criminals stalk their prey like a cat, and pounce the moment the opportunity rises
