Toyota of Seattle? That makes sense. I heard the story of the build from Phil, who heard it from the owner before him who had it for 12 years. They said it was six, but I have no idea, sounds like you might have more accurate information. It would be very cool to get the full story of these trucks.

Do you have the original ARB drawers? I've still got them, built like a tank. Not as pretty as the new models, but they work great. I replaced the original OME shocks a couple years ago, wow were they shot to hell.
Totally possible. Judging from the emails I have I think mine might have been the prototype of the concept. Seems like "discovery phase". "Hey, let's try this idea to address this issue" like adding rising rate FMU, then unichip, then higher flowing CAT. It's fun finding somebody else that was part of that project. The only big piece of missing info I have is that all the work was done around 45k, and there isn't a specific receipt or email about the HG being done "just in case". They did a lot of other baselines though. I'm now at 189k with some hard living with heavy towing, and running crazy lean (thanks to unichip) for 130k and HG has been rock solid so far. I upgraded fan clutch / dealt with PHH ages ago as well as put a tranny temp gauge on right away, maybe I've just gotten lucky and triaged it enough to prolong it? Do you know if yours was done?

Yup, still have them. I had 2 kids when I bought the 80, now I have 5.... sooooo, I pulled them out about 5 years ago and put the 3rd rows back in. Made me sad to do it. Those things are AWESOME. I did a could dunes trips with an ARB on the slide out, it was pretty nice setup. I'm building a work / play Tundra for my business and am putting a Decked drawer setup under a Snugtop to hold all of my marine repair tools, not near the quality of use of space unfortunately. I was tempted to put the ARB's back in and build it out for what I need. I own a boat rental company and just bought a 9k lb Nautique G25, and have a few 8k lb G23's, and when things are broken or we get in a bind with my other trucks I step in to haul. I was already pushing it with the G23's, the 25 is probably too much for this old girl... Decided to get a 6 seater Tundra and build out the bed for gear storage so that I can haul all the kiddos in a pinch. I'm going to miss driving the 80 all summer. Hopefully I still put some miles on her.

If I recall correctly, my original actuator also had that bend to it.

I'm right behind you at 185k. I bought it about 2.5 years ago and have put on 20k miles including several cross-country trips, and a lot of mud and rock climbing. As far as I know the HG has never been done. I've got records going back about 10 years but that's it. The whole turbo system was rebuilt just a few hundred miles before I bought it, and it's been rock solid until this little hiccup. My guess is when they rebuilt the turbo they just reused the original actuator.

I'm pretty sure my exhaust isn't what they originally built. It's a 3" all the way, no cat, and just a Flowmaster muffler with a big dent in it, sounds angry all the time. Almost sounds like a turbo diesel, really cool. But I'm thinking about putting a bigger muffler on because the cross-country drives get really loud after a while.

It would be really cool to get them together. Any chance you're going to SAS5 in August? It's my big Colorado trip every year.

Mine is 3" with high flow cat and muffler. Sounds more like a swarm of angry bees than the "drone" you're describing.

I would LOVE to do a trip like that, but my boat biz is 100% slammed mid June - Mid Sep, so I end up staying close to home unfortunately. :-(

I used to do Oregon coast / St Anthony dune trips every year, but not for the last 12 since that started picking up.

Mine had the 3" too, no cat (80s didn't get them here from factory) and a single muffler. Sounded mint!

Oh the exhaust sounds awesome when I'm wheeling, powering up hills, crawling, turbo whistling. The problem is 75mph is the cruising sweet spot, and also the biggest drone. After several hours I'm going deaf. I need to figure out an alternative.

Mine had a 3" mandrel bent with Flowmaster muffler, was very loud and drony. Put a Magnaflow muffler on it and it's much more subdued. Still has good tone but less growly.

Been a little while, but hopefully I'll be up and running again this weekend. After doing some test fits, the bent-rod actuator just wasn't going to work. Looking more closely at my original 480009-9 and I can see now that the rod was cut and welded to make it straighter and longer, pretty much 7" long. So I called the guys back at ATP Turbo (btw super nice and helpful, definitely recommend calling them) and we came up with another 6-7psi straight, adjustable rod actuator that would do the job. Part number is 700187-0002. However the rod was just 5.5" long, so they also sent me an extension for it, and this time it looks like I have a winner. Tomorrow is garage day.

I finally got it all back together yesterday morning. Turned out the turbo drain line was in bad shape and sourcing the 5/8" hydraulic hose was tougher here in small town north GA. One good test drive yesterday where I got everything up to temp, and it's boosting at 6lbs (measured in the manifold) now just like it should. In fact I can actually hear the wastegate now for the very first time. My guess is the actuator was bad for quite a while before it blew for good.

Next up, front brakes and then a bunch of small projects. I'll be ready for SAS5!

Well my exhaust manifold has the infamous cracks. Has anyone found a long term solution aside from the TurboGlide manifold? Hoping they still make that even...

I'd reach out to them first. Mine is still doing great as a replacement and I drive it pretty hard.

Did you have any issue with the TG manifold/ turbo clearances? I know the clearance to the engine mount is tight on the compressor housing...

Not at all, it was pretty much identical to the Safari OG that I replaced. BUT I did upgrade to v-band down pipe at the same time, so if it was slightly clocked different I may not have noticed.
