I would not want a compressor there. It is going to get very wet and dirty. The entire compressor could be submerged during a creek crossing. Taking it though a mud hole would probably pack the fans and motors with mud and brick the compressor. Even in the desert it will constantly be exposed to dust which may clog the porous stone air filters.

I like SDHQ stuff (I have their pricey but awesome battery terminals) but that compressor mount is a head-scratcher to me.

Definitely understand your concerns but engine bay mounted would get dusted as well
I’m not convinced about mud though theory unless your bogged down up to the belly

Dust has not been an issue with my underhood mount, and the rig has been ran in dusty conditions. Under hood it has the grille, inner fenders, and hood itself acting as a barrier between the compressor and the environment.

Under the rig is 100% exposed, and it's behind all 4 of the tires where dust (and mud) will get kicked up. I can tell you personally that the portion of my rig probably gets the dirtiest, and does get submerged in creek crossings and mudholes (and mud can get that deep here). I'd also be concerned of the compressor getting packed with snow/ice and freezing up when parked during cold conditions.

You are certainly free to give that mount a try, but it's not a place I'd ever put my $600 ARB twin.

Look at your undercarriage after driving on moist trails or after a snowstorm. Now your compressor is covered in that.

I have 50,000 miles on my twin compressor in the engine bay of my 200. It gets little dusty, but that's it.

$600…. Those new brushless are almost a grand!!!
Even the $600 brushed compressor was more than my 29-gallon shop compressor! I love the ARB twin but they are sooo expensive relative to the size.

what is this snow and mud you speak of ... Nice T-Town my old stomping ground

I ran an ARB Twin under the hood of 5th Gen 4Runner for 1.5 years, then I moved it under the hood of a GX460 for two years, and then under the hood of a 200 Series for nearly three years, and it never gave me an issue. Happy to report that three years later, the current owner still uses it, so that's nearly nine years of continuous under-hood use without an issue. The heat and dust they see in the engine bay obviously isn't impacting longevity.

Happy to have the factory compressor in our Overtrail.

My father just sold a 5-year-old ARB Twin he had under the hood of his Gladiator for $350 in mere minutes. I thought he might have been kind of high on his price, it appears he might have sold himself short on it lol. He replaced his Gladiator with a new Trail Hunter Tacoma long bed, and it has the same factory compressor in the bed that our GX550 Overtrail has in the cargo area. They aren't as fast as the ARB's, but you can preset the pressure level you want it to stop at from the screen, which is a nice touch.
