To add to the choices of compressors, I use an AC pump out of late model Chrysler's for air on my 40. It's a two piston, oil bath compressor. It has an actual oil pan and fill hole. It must be mounted upright for it to work properly. The wiring and plumbing is the same as described by Brownbear. The front and rear bumpers are air tanks. I plumbed the outlet of the compressor to feed the rear bumper first, in an attempt to cool the air. I ran a hard line off the outlet for a couple of feet to aid in the cooling. That sucker would get hot enough to blow silicone hoses apart. I mounted an industrial water separator just before the rear air tank. If I was using the comp as a filling station, I needed to drain the separator every 1/2 hour or so. It mounted on my SBC quite easily. I didn't want to attempt to fab up a location on the 3B, and the AC still works, so that wasn't an option. I am in the throws of replacing the stock alternator with a high output one, that will be enough bracket fabbing for me.

Anyone want to split a 4 pack of MASTERFLOW MF-1050 Portable Air Compressors (it is identical to the Superflow MV-50)??? 4 Case is going for $256.00 (+ $40 shipping to Point Roberts) on eBay, get one for yourself and a gift for someone else.

I just want one, and can not currently get the higher priced air system thanks to creating a hole in my fuel tank with a pressure washer... long story

The single unit on eBay goes for $96 USD after shipping, and this 4 pack broken down has a cost of about $74 USD for one unit.

Hey Phil, have you used the compressor yet on your new winch? I'm curious as to how well that part of it works. I can only assume the winch part works well.

I was viewing another thread here on mud, and found links to 2 12V units that are supposed to be quite nice:

But it sounds like for the price of them, you could buy the Powerplant and have a winch and a compressor.

See post #20
I didn't time how long it took to inflate the tires, it seemed like a couple of minutes per.

That was my thought exactly, and it's all in one. I don't have much room in the engine bay for an air compressor. I've added a 12v vacuum pump so I can address the electical shortfalls. I want to add an onboard welder, so any space left over in the engine bay has been reserved for that. First step will be a high output alternator.

I will say its not fun to make the brackets for the york on a 3B. Took me bit of time. Lots of heavy holding the york out at the end of your reach moments.

Then there is the lining it up...........

i use one of the tornadoIII's from NSOR. about 100 bones. its 100% duty, but not very high cfm's. a 35 from 13-32 takes me about 5-6 minutes per. not bad...its portable with battery clamps so it doesnt hog up room in the engine bay and its bring it as you'll need it. pretty much the same one you see from the US discount tool stores...chicago pneumatic i think. im never in a hurry to air up..as we're usually chit chatting while we all air up.

i thought about piecing together a viar setup w/ small tank to run my locker as well, but i just decided to go with a dedicated arb compact for the locker, and separate setup for airing tires. sure i'd like something faster that could possibly run air tools...but the tornado suits my needs so far. even comes with different attachments to pump up tires, sports balls, air matresses..etc.

Are you planning on just having a stock alt modified? I remember reading in 4WD Australia that Terrain Tamer makes a HO alternator - no idea if it could be sourced around here, or what kind of $$$, but could be worth a call or email...

I hadn't thought about the idea of modding the stock one. I was more interested in a 100-160 amp, self triggering (no wire). Mike McT. thinks there should be no problems with the wiring harness, I would have to upgrade the charge wire. Something along the lines of a Mean Green, Bosch or maybe Zena.
These things are expensive, a 200 amp welding unit is going to cost around 1,500.00... ouch!

I do have a source for some old welding units. Remember the welder that Brad has on his 40? its the same one. I think the guys pretty pissed at me tho since we never had anything worked out agreement wise and I havent seen him since Brad passed away.
If I recall correctly, they were a chrysler type alternator, Brad did say he had to redo a lot of wiring cuz it had all dried up from age.
