this is what I got....
1987 4runner (22re) 144k on the odometer. Ran fine idled smooth and started on the first turn every time. but, while driving to work, one piston rod broke off the crank and hit both sides of the block and now you can see through the block from both sides.
It had alot done prior to the break down. front differential replaced, transfer case rebuilt all the way back to the rear axle seals being replaced. both front cv boots? were replaced. even the weired clunk sound was fixed that was coming from the drive shaft/transfer case. All that was left was the engine. I did not part it cuzz d'animal told me not too and well, he's been a reliable source of info (thanks d'animal), and while he cant tell the future, I'm glad I did not get rid of it! even if my
"hates that damn truck"...hee-hee-hee
Almost a year later
My friend starte parting an 88 toyo truck (22r). And tells me that he can do the rebuild with the 22r block and intall it (leaving it running) all for 1k. And will throw in the rear part/bed of the truck so that I can make a
trailler out of it. It will give me spare tire and an auxillary gas tank. But that is for another thread.
Now (just bare with me I'm almost at the punch line), My question is what do I do...... His engine has a blown head gasket that does not bother me much cuzz well its a 22r block. He will change piston rings all the way through all of the gaskets! What parts can I avoid rebuilding? that I can pull w/out pulling the engine appart at a later time? new oil pump? water pump? do I need the block looked at? Is changing the piston rings enough or do I really need to consider new pistons.....I'm sounding like a newb cuzz I'm KEEPING MY RUNNER!!!!!!!!!! after all the $$$ that was thrown at it.... All I will need is interior re-upolstered in Tijuana and a new paint job and she's done!
Long winded, I know. Please help I hate to have to hate my runner.
