i have a 1980 RHD HJ45 with a 1H engine. I just got it and changed the oil, it had been running high before but after changing it went past the High mark. Any ideas whats happening?

@cantfindanythin

Couple thoughts. Was it possibly a significantly higher viscosity oil than the previous oil? Is the engine high mileage or recently rebuilt? (I only ask because if it is a fresh tight engine, it will obviously run higher pressure).

Possibly a stuck oil bypass in the pump?

Did you happen to run anything else through the crank case prior to the oil change? I had something similar happen to me on my '78 2F. I ran seafoam in the crank case in a foolish attempt to 'flush' the engine. I believe that it broke some sludge free which then clogged the oil passage to the head.

Does the oil pressure drop after warming up?

Above the high mark sounds like a sender issue.

it was rebuilt a couple years ago. i put 5w-40 rotella in it. the engine after being rebuilt has most likely 10k on it. and i haven’t run anything though it. i just talked to some people and they think it’s the viscosity of it
