Anyone have a trick to replacing the oil pan gasket? I know how to do it just don't want it to take the all the time to get at it from the top. The book calls for 6.7 hours, just not that ambitious at the moment, considering I get free oil top offs at work anytime I want... I just hate leaks and while topping it off works for me know, I want to fix it, LEAKS KILL ME... Let me know.

What year is the truck? IFS or solid axle? What engine?

(8/84+ 22R/RE engines don't use a gasket, the pan has FIPG sealant)

you dont even have to disconnect the driveshaft or axles to get it down far enuff. just unbolt the 3 mounts for the diff and one side of the crossmember

easy.

or just lift the damn thing. thats what i did. damn thing leaked for months till i found a full lift for 100 bucks! :flipoff2:

Not to sound like an idiot but I guess I don't understand, a full lift what do you mean by that? I guess let me know... If you mean engine lift then I have access to one, and have heard people being able to change this gasket out with one but Not really sure I follow you, or the process involved... Let me know.

He means a suspension lift which lowers the front diff giving more room. Lifting the engine might help, but I doubt it will give you enough room to pull the pan alone, unless you have a body lift... The engine is only going to go up an inch or 2 on a stock truck before the trans hits the trans tunnel.

Jerod, your spot on, as usual! :D

I never had any luck liftin the engine, and even if i did, i dont like gettin at those bolts on the mount, and they aint no fun linin up neether
