I was just reading about these on gas engines ,Do 3b diesel engines have oil gallery plugs?? My cruiser is in the shed on blocks and theres a foot or more of snow around the shed.

Yes. One is replaced with the oil pressure sender, one is replaced with the oil pressure cut-off switch, on one of mine I replaced a plug with a fitting for a direct reading oil pressure gauge, there are one or two more. They are on the RH side of the block.

all the toyota oil plugs ive seen are 1/8" BSPT. its a bit different than NPT. autometer makes an adaptor, or you could just run a 1/8 npt tap through it. on my old 22r temporary junk motor i just put a npt sender in it, but thats cause i didnt care about that motor.

The 1/8" NPT Female tp 1/8" BSPT male adapter from Autometer will run you anywhere from $8 to $16. The same adapter can be obtained from McMaster-Carr (4860K141) for less that $5.

Someone on Mud did a group buy of 1/8" BSPT adapters. I bought a couple. Nice parts and cheap too. You can do a search here to find the thread. I think it was BreckenridgeCruiser that found them.

I remember that thread. I think Crushers got a whole bunch of them from him.

Yup... I found them in a few places. The ones I got were 1/8" BSPT to 4AN (37degree JIC) so you can put a 1/8" hose right to the block instead a chain of adapters. If people want more I can place another order and send some out... again I will need interest for around 10-20 pieces. Diesel42, I still have atwo held aside for you and will send them when I send the copper turbo gaskets for our kit...

Kraig

Thanks Kraig. The 1/8"NPT has 27 threads per inch. The 1/8"BSPT has 28 threads per inch. I think the BSPT also uses a 55deg. included angle pitch rather than the NPT 60degree angle. None the less, even though it can fit vice/versa, i've been told not to do it by a pipe/plug specialist.

I used one of these plugs for my turbo oil pressure. I went down to the local hydraulic/ industrial shop and orded a 1/8 bspt tp 1/4 JIC fitting. Was a couple bucks. I used 1/4 hose to feed the turbo, hence the reason for the 1/8 bspt to 1/4 JIC..

Hey sorry a bit of "thread" resurrection here but two quick questions"

Im assuming the 1/8 BSTP is non tapered?

Iv had to get fairly creative with adapters to go to the new oil sender, is teff tape the best thing to seal with or is it going to cause issues when it comes into contact with oil.... something better perhaps?

H......Im assuming the 1/8 BSTP is non tapered?.....

It is actually BSPT (not BSTP) and it stands for "Brittish Standard Pipe - Tapered" - so it does refer to a "tapered" thread.

Teflon tape withstands just about anything so it should be fine. (Petrol, diesel, oil, water, steam, etc.)

It is personal preference really. Although, if there isn't much thread contact area for sealing purposes (or some other problem with the joint) I would probably prefer to use a non-setting liquid thread sealer instead.

PS. Make sure you wind the tape on in the correct direction on the male thread (so it won't tend to unravel when you screw it into the female thread).

And you don't want to leave any bits of teflon tape inside any oil galleries (when you open a joint where teflon tape has been used)!

Hey thanks! Iv always known it was British straight pipe (although apparently I cant spell) but never knew what the last T was for thanks!

I picked up an adapter from the local hydraulic shop and when I got home saw it was a tapered threading and started wondering if I had to take it back or not... it appears not!

Need a picture and help:)

Brown Bear,
I have recently purchased a Denco Turbo Kit from Radd Cruisers, and the install instructions refer to an Oil Gallery Plug that will feed the Turbo. I am not familiar with my 3B's anatomy:doh:, is there a chance you could send me a photo of where this might be? Or perhaps point it out on a photo I send you? I am stuck at this stage of the install. :bang:
Cheers,
Ryan:beer:

PS have you heard of a source for a labeled picture of a 3B engine, with schematics? Aside from the FSM, which I already own.

I have two 3B turbo engines. Each uses a different location for the turbo oil fitting. I have no idea which is the preferred method.

Here's a photo of one system:

And here's a few photos to show how the other one is hooked up:
