OK - some 'before' pics

rutbeer - I sent you a PM with my email. Yes, I'm in W-S near Robinhood/Peacehaven area. I had the rig for about two years in the 'pre-resto' condition and it got plenty dirty...attached a few 'before' pictures.

Sad to say, since the resto it hasn't been that kinda fun...the pitfalls of doing a full restoration. Had to do it all over again I'd probably keep it a 'little rough' so as not to hesitate enjoying it for what it is...a tough truck.

Little-joe ...Thanks for the invite to Raleigh....what time? I'll see if I can make it ...Its been about 2 years since the resto has been 'done' so while it still looks good its not quite as 'crisp' as these photos indicate. I'm hoping to install a new muffler to quite down the rig a bit...think the neighbors will appreciate that!!

No kidding! You sure those pics weren't taken in 1979? :)

thanks!!

Thanks guys -- appreciate the comments. Yep - those are 'recent' photos...few more attached. Most of the pics I have are too large file format to post on this forum.

The cruiser is basically stock except for a few mods...I did change out the rear drums for the disc brake conversion and when I had the tub off the frame -- blasted it and the frame, POR-15 both and then rhinolined both the under side of the fenders and tub and the lower (below hardtop) inside of the tub. If it could be disassembled and rebuilt it was..I went back with stainless steel hardware on everything but the drive train (grade 8 yellow zinc).

Had the cruiser painted at local place - The Paint Shop by Scott Winfield -- he does alot of hotrods and custom cars mostly. All pieces were painted separately then I reassembled.

I'll try to put together a list of 'excess' parts that are in the basement and post on this site -- hopefully someone can use some of them.

Aha...a local painter. What did that run? I'm looking at starting my FJ45 resto this year and I don't think I feel like painting again. It's a PITA in a small garage.
Hey, let me know if you go to the Raleigh meeting, we can caravan. I need to see if family is coming to town first though, so I will be last minute on the deal.

might as well add my cruiser collection.............

Old Yeller

Figure I'd throw in a pix of the 40...here is some info..PO bought it from California 5 years ago (it's true what I have heard, dry climate=minimal rust damage!!), she didn't need too much work, fixed a few things and drove her around on and off...she is mostly stock (90%) with a few minor mods, original F engine and carb., roll bar, front and jump seats need to be repaired or replaced (no biggie), three on the tree (I am going to have to get use to this), frame and chasis virtually rust free, body is great condition no major rust through areas or rot, just some minor, minor surface rust and two areas where bondo was used but not b/c of rust/rot but to repair a very minor bang up, currently swapping out the front drum axle for a front disc axles..ran into a snag with the tie rod but got one from Juan in Raleigh and it should work after some modification...after that we will go to the rear...already have a rebuilt rear axle that needs brackets, rotors and calipers to complete the swap...slowly but surely we will get Old Yeller to URE next year...thanks for looking...Roger

Been awhile since this post was replied to so I figure I'd do it the honor. Just got my cruiser on the road again. Wanna know how to meet some of yall and learn about this thing you all call 'wrenching' and maybe go to a few meetin's. I'm plannin' a resto but don't really know where to start. New to cruisin' and wrenchin', but know enough to get me by.

When is the next event?

Meetings are the second sunday each month, so 09MAR2008. Place to be determined from El Presidente...
