Looks like it may have been empty from the dealer according to this post Tailgate Storage

Some others found creative uses for it, however.

I store my gloves and my key for the locking lugs in that compartment. I can't get my chains to fit there though.

@Haggis the same thing happened to me from my LC's PO. I needed the whole toolkit that is stored in the tailgate. I bought mine from the dealership but perhaps @beno can help you here? I've attached my invoice and the parts listing so you can order only the parts you need.

Any idea what sizes those wrenches are? I found a solution to lower the tire down, now I'd like to put together my own little tool bag. Trying to avoid the dealership and save a few dollars!

Awesome, thanks!

I've got to say, I thought it was pretty cool that Toyota put together that tool kit and stashed it in the tailgate. Just another reason why I love cruisers.

It is super handy. I've been using the left side for all sorts of doodads too...

In that wee, itty-bitty space I stash:

-Tiny ratchet set with all the sizes I need (nut bits, screw-driver heads of all types)
-Telescoping Magnetic screw grabber 9for those annoying times you drop a screw into the engine bay)
-Waterproof notepad and pen
-Spline adapter (RW wheels)
-Extra lugnut
-Two spinning emergency light pucks
-BP-51 adjustment wrenches (for compression/rebound)
-Water Purification Tablets (You can survive for weeks on good water)
-Magnetic LED Flood light (ha! I have like 6 flashlights of various types in the vehicle)
-2 Marine/Water Flares (like those you'd use on a boat to signal)

Believe it or not... All these doodads fit!

Edit!

Just went and looked and realized I have MORE in there!
Also have:
-Another Flashlight/Floodlight
-Yet another Largish LED Floodlight
-Benchmade Knife Maint. Tool
-A 3rd Sky Flare
-"LifeStraw" (water purifier)

:)

Ya... Life straws are just smart. No container necessary. Got water and no food? You're good for WEEKS.
-Wish I'd thought of it bc some dude is making a fortune selling those things... :)

Here's what I keep in mine...(photos)
Tailgate Storage: Can you top this?

I think it would be fun to have a storage gallery and see all the ways people compensate for the skimpy storage in the 200. Getting drawers hopefully soon, but meanwhile, I love that little tailgate space.

Yes or No? Saw this on FB.

All 5.7s get that sound. Its a noisy engine until it warms up.

Crazy oil gozillionaires with too much money? i dunno...

It appears (to me) to be one of those three-stories-tall, monster dump trucks...converted to look like an old pickup truck.

I'd like to see the winch he'd need if stuck in the sand...?

Nuts...
