Lots of HDJ81's up here with factory winches. They go for considerably more than $500. The remote alone is worth hundreds.

And your point is? A new winch and controller is north of $10K.

I'm saying for folks who live in the Western Hemisphere, buying a winch that costs 10x more to service and maintain more than the initial cost sounds asinine....

Then again, I do own two Land Cruisers.

My point is that a working $500 winch is worth far more than the OP can get it for.

He's not going to wear it out or break it if he uses it for the purpose he stated. Also, considering the winch was available domestically in the area the OP is in, parts wouldn't be an issue even if he did.

The seller isn't taking our calls so we assume he sold the 80 as is ;p All good thoughts and we appreciate the input. When it is time to pull the trigger on a winch, we will try to mimic the clean OEM install with a reliable, low maintenance unit.

Any pics out there of what we are trying to accomplish?

Holy time warp - you just responded to a 12 year old thread.
In the hallucinated world of the Internet, time doesn't exist stricto sensu. Beno is probably 12 years older [unless he's an "Eternal", ha ha]; but this thread is as actual today as when it was written.

I paid $300 Canukian for mine!
That included everything, including OEM hand controller and bag. I could have had the mount with that also.

🤷‍♂️
