Awesome. Arduino inside, or some Atmel toolchain?

If you're not going to produce them, you should enable someone else, maybe Racer65 or CruiserCorps.

I looked at my stash over the weekend. The three I have for my '76 are all 85927-60010, as expected. One is known bad. The other two await a test, but I've got bigger fish to fry right now.

wow @unixman nice work!!!

I spent a lot of time this summer reading through the excellent threads here re carb cooling fans and I bugged @Coolerman at one point who graciously helped. Finally got my US spec 78 fj40 cooling fan to work. The part number for the fed controller is 85927-60020-blue label (numbers at the bottom of the blue label are 078100-0062-12v. The part number on the Cal controller 85927-60030-red label (numbers at the bottom of the red label 078100-0072).

I run a header on my truck so I moved the thermister closer to the header. I was about ready to throw the towel in on mine after buying a couple controllers that didn't seem to work. I was going to go the @GA-Architect route. Luckily I waited. I went to an electronics technician with the controllers (I have two blue label that work and one red label) with the truck.

Turns out there was a loose/bent pin on the wiring harness connector that connects to the controller ... cleaned and straightened the pins and voila ... works like a charm ... stays on about 20 minutes when its hot weather, a little less time when its cool weather ...

@Fast Eddy
Thanks. I'll figure out the cost soon and sell the prototypes. Would like to make a couple small changes before making a small batch. The later controller uses an Atmega328P, which is the same uC in the Arduino Uno.

I believe the controller is in the same location as the '78, passenger footwell behind the heat duct. Do you not have hard start issues with the TR after the engine is hot?

Sent from my iPhone

Either a PO removed the controller along with the fan or it's not in plain sight behind the heater duct. Can someone post up a pic of where it's installed so I can confirm? I do have hard starting if I try to restart her between 5 and 30 minutes after shutting down.

Seems like a lot of to-do for something that can be fixed so easily and cheaply....

Is turning a knob so hard to do when shutting off the engine?

I opened my CA controller tonight. Looks simpler than the Fed spec. I'm guessing that's because of the binary temp sensor switch. Next step is figuring out how to test this thing. I tested the sensor, fuse and fan so unfortunately this is all that's left.
