Looks like a stock alternator to me. Plug doesn’t look stock though.

What year is it installed in?

It's at the top of my post. 1978 FJ 40 - 2F

I can't find any markings on it anywhere so I am completely unsure if it is or not. Any idea what that black wire is cut and how important it is / isn't?

Wire is not used. FJ40's only use 2 of the 3 wires. Extra wire goes to the charge warning lamp in FJ55 I believe. Someone probably got a new connector, mine got melted years ago, and I just used female crimp blade connectors.

FJ4013: That is not a correct 1978 alternator as evidenced by the adapter between the stock wiring and the alternator. That alternator is for an earlier truck. It will work of course with the adapter. Here is a pic of the correct alternator.

Travis, if you need an alternator connector drop me a PM with a pic of the back of your alternator. I carry them for all year FJ40's.

Thanks, I found a connector with a good amount of wire on an old harness that was given to me. Plan on using it when I get my engine back in.

At least they made an adaptor instead of cutting the oem plug off.

Thanks. Any idea where I can get one of these? Everywhere I look they are discontinued. Or would I be better off going with an aftermarket alt with a higher AMP output? Also, I have an external voltage regulator FYI.
