Long story short while driving hour and half early Sat. morning on hunting trip I noticed the 80 running hot. I pulled over let it cool down added water and coolant and drove another 5 miles to a friends house. Parked the 80 and of course jumped in with buddy to continue hunting for the morning. returned about noon and made sure she was topped off with coolant and water and started her up. I had a little bit of white smoke coming out of exhaust but I had a fairly steady drip of coolant coming out of my down pipe, just before my cats. It was leaking from a crack in my exhaust which i knew was there. She has 182000 on the clock and in the PO's previous maintenance records nothing about the HG. I did the PHH about 10000 ago and had not noticed any problems with lose of coolant or overheating. My main concern is the block cracked. I havent torn into it yet but is that likely to be a problem? I already plan on buying the dvd for my bro-in-law and I to fix HG. And the real kick in the nuts was no deer!! Just a couple of does and little bucks.

Anything is possible. I just found a crack in my head. Which was rebuilt 11,000 miles ago by the PO and I have had no overheating issues. It ran a bit hot this summer 200-215 F but I removed the lights on the ARB and the temps went back down to 190 F. Point of the story is regardless of previous maintenance, sometimes the age of these trucks give us a good kick in the nuts every so often. Sorry to hear about your bad luck.
