The Nov/Dec Toyota Trails has arrived and I have a couple of copies for anybody in Coastal Cruisers who starts or renews their TLCA membership through me at the Nov 9 club meeting.
Some members of our club got lots of press in this latest issue. Several pages starting on p.6 on the Alaska Trek with photos of Greg B, Clarence G, and Karr S. There is one fantastic photo of Greg B on p.9 crossing the Oshetna River on the way to Gold Creek, taken by outstanding photographer Gina Bringman.
My article on Cruiser Mobile VHF radio finally comes out on p.17-18, next to the Extreme Bends ad.
A reminder that out of a Coastal Cruiser membership of around 50 people, there are still quite a few that have not yet joined TLCA. It is an great organization and their magazine deserves our support. Because of tight budgets, they will have to raise membership fees $3. next year although if you join or renew this year, you don't pay the increase. So, guys, let's get your shirt together and get that TLCA membership thing done.

Cool on the mag!

Easy way to have the TLCA dues looked after...part of club memership fees. No pay, no membership! Add the BC4x4 on that as well.

I think it should be a separate issue. We still need to encourage membership.

One thing you need to keep in mind is that club members like myself and Traci can not join the TLCA. While we are club members and can do club events and runs, we can not participate in any TLCA sanctioned event.

Craig

C'mon Craig...you and Traci know what you need to do. It'll stop Cruiser envy anyway. On the same note, I can no longer participate in any kind of run with my Volvo...so there, I'm one step lower on the totem pole. :D (but only for a little while)

We would have to consider the cost factor if all memberships were rolled into one:
First time CC membership $35.
TLCA membership ....... $45 approx.
BC 4x4 membership .... $25 approx.
_____________________________________
Grand Total ........... $105.
This might be a little too much to swallow for prospective new members all at once.

lets just clear up one little misunderstanding..its not bc4x4. its 4WDABC. and their club rate is 15$ per club member.
It could be an option I suppose for those who are vehemently opposed to the idea, as long as perhaps the majority of club members are up for it?

If the Coastal Cruisers are going to remain a TLCA chapter, then all members have to be members in good standing with the TLCA. I don't remember that ever being an option. I haven't been paying for the first class postage, and that brings down the cost significantly. I still get my Trails, and it's for a good cause.

Craig...I was just joking around with my previous post. In my case, I'm planning on getting another Cruiser in the near future, so the fact that I don't have one now is really a non issue. As for your situation...I see your point, and don't know what the answer is.

How about something like this
New CC members pay there $35 fee for the first year have the TLCA membership $42 USD a requirement before you can renew your CC membership $??

and if we want to be members of 4wdabc as a club we add $15 to our membership fees
or
individuals can join for $30 new members or $20 renewal (optional)...

As for Creg, Traci and others that don't qualify TLCA membership restrict the number of non toyota 4x4 owners to whatever the TLCA will allow based on our current membership.

From the horses mouth:

http://www.tlca.org/tlca/bylaws.shtml

ARTICLE IV - CHAPTERS
A minimum of six (6) individual TLCA members, in good standing, who are owner operators may submit an application to become a Chapter.
The applying Chapter must submit a formal letter of application to the TLCA BOD and Bylaws for BOD approval prior to being voted upon for chapter membership.
Bylaws must include clauses that establish the following:
A goal or objective of the Chapter is to "Support the TLCA."
All Chapter members eligible to join TLCA must join and remain current members in TLCA.
Chapter rosters may not exceed 30 percent non-TLCA members and non-TLCA members may not be used in constituting a quorum.
To be a "Chapter in Good Standing" the Chapter must comply with the following:
Retain all Bylaws clauses from Section C above.
Maintain four (4) current members who are TLCA members.
Submit a current Delegate form.
Be current on all financial obligations to the TLCA.
Submit a roster of members yearly or as called for by the BOD.

You guys really ought to check into getting your Trails bulk shipped. It helps cut membership costs.

I think the problem is that the Fraser Valley is so spread out and some guys rarely make meetings, so it would be difficult for everyone to get on board with bulk mail.
Quite a few guys in the club, so lots of differing opinions. Just like with the BC4WD and TLCA dues together. Personally I think it is good the way it is, I wouldn't mind seeing the CC as a supporter of BC4WD, but I wouldn't want to force anyone that doesn't want it to have to pay. Too bad there wasn't an option to pay or not pay the BC4WD fees with CC still being a supporting club, I'm sure most guys would chip in the extra 15 bucks, but the few that don't want to wouldn't have to.

Cheers,

There is a way. The 4WDABC's club fees are 15$ per member. So if we have say 50 club members, but only 35 of them want to be 4WDABC members, we submit a list to them with those 35 members. Done.

This seems to be an ongoing issue, so come prepared to state your case at the meeting next Thursday. In the past, members generally liked to join or not join the Four Wheel Drive Assoc depending on their own preference. The TLCA membership issue is also important because they need more members to keep the Toyota Trails mag up to the high standards of colour pictures, better binding, etc. Also, as Chaper members of TLCA it is incumbent on us to support them and participate, otherwise, why are we a Chapter?

Personally, I think that membership in all of the above should not be optional. 100 bucks isn't going to break the bank, geez, we all drive Cruisers. I haven't joined TLCA and 4wdABC yet. Why? I just haven't got around to it. I suspect there are others like myself.

Certainly these organizations deserve our support and act in the interests of us all.

You know, I think members join and participate because they love Cruisers and enjoy meeting other like-minded people. I also think many members would like to attend more meetings and go wheeling more often, but the realities of families and jobs just take priority. If we put too many requirements and conditions on their membership status, then they will reluctantly drop out. Some join with romantic high expectations of wheeling off into the sunset, but find later that they have to stay home and fix the plumbing and patch the roof on weekends. Let's stay casual and enjoy ourselves, minimize rules and regulations, and encourage those who need to pay their TLCA dues to get on with it.

Sometimes hard choices need to be made. Sometimes, part of membership means participation in a group choice...even if one disagrees. I think the right thing to do is have pay three at the same time. One stop shop so to speak. I like the idea to supporting an organization which (even though mainly USA based) gathers LandCruiser people together. I like the idea of supporting an organization that works with groups to maintain access to land, so we CAN enjoy the vehicles we choose to drive in the environment they were built for.

I know I am simply too busy sometimes to take on any more; land closures, connections, networking, research...etc. Therefore I am comfortable supporting those who take this on. I am not current with the 4WDABC, so I am talking about myself here too.

It would make me proud to stand with a bunch of fellow enthusiasts...who put thier money where thier mouth is.

I probably will not make the meeting, so I throw out my thoughts in this venue.

Craig and Traci...it's simple make it state that those with Toyota's join the TLCA. You are both an asset to the club, and I hope continue your involvement.
