Hey GX people,

I'm starting a dedicated thread for those of us in the Northeastern United States. My goal is to create a space where we can schedule meet-ups/wheeling trips and shoot the breeze.

I'm located in the Hudson Valley of NY (Newburgh) and have a number of offroad spots in the area I frequent, plus love to go on adventures.

Please keep the s***-talking friendly and constructive as can be.

Why don't we start with a roll call to see who's out there?

I’ll start:
Last trip I did in the fall 2021: northern NJ/southern NY boarder.

You know I'm up for an adventure. Would like to do a Pine Barrens run sometime this spring, maybe a run up to NH, and an AOAA trip once the ice melts.
Having just moved up from NJ I've done a couple runs down in the northern pine barrens, fun area, unique ecology. I really want to get into Wharton and explore around.
I grew up in NH but other than high school shenanigans I haven't done any real wheeling in the state, but am VERY interested.

Looks fun, but I'm diagonally just about in the farthest opposite corner of the lower 48.

This is awesome! I am actually in FL, but have a bro in Portland that I visit frequently. Coming up this summer and doing a wheeling trip. Looking forward to the shared info.

North Maine Woods are a cool destination from what I’ve heard, never been. My mom lives in mid coast Maine so I’m up there a fair amount. I feel like there has to be a plethora of pseudo legal “trails” around the state, just need to find them.

New LX owner here, also in Newburgh, and interested in participating. Also looking for good LC mechanic in the area.
Someone should be able to help you out with a mechanic, but in regards to "participating", with all due respect you're in the wrong forum.
Depending upon which LX you have, e.g.
There will be a forum specific to your LX. There you should be able to find all things LX!
Also, welcome to the land of Lexus! Hope you truly enjoy your new ride!

Newburgh! Welcome. You plan on wheeling that LX? Unfortunately I don’t have a local mechanic recommendation. But I did hear about a mechanic that owns a GX, so I may try and find him to discuss somethings.

Welcome to the GX community. I'm in the Delaware Valley (Central NJ). Would be interested in a meet up or trip.

Been camping at Wharton and have checked out various trails in the Pine Barrens. It's tough finding good trails down there unless you know someone very familiar with the area. We take a few trips each year to Central PA. Trails there are decent... nothing overly technical. Nice mix of rock and mud. Trails are not maintained so expect a good deal of pinstriping.

Let us know if you plan on putting together a meet.

Yo Pete,

Central Jersey ay, the wife is from that area, lovely accent. I’ve been seeing chatter about off-road permits being a thing soon in the pines…
Central PA, you talking Bald Eagle? If so it’s one of my favorite spots for camping and exploring! If not I’d be interested in hearing where you go.

I’m trying to put together an offroad meetup, maybe camping for this spring. Probably will be in NY state somewhere, maybe an offroad park, looking at BHM and Metowee at the moment.

I am local and open to show folks around. Wharton tends to have a lot of puddles, and that's about it as far as obstacles go in my experience. The areas I know best are between the Brendan T Byrne State forest and Forked River Mountain Preserve. I am only a few mins from the trails, so if anyone wants a tour guide, let me know. We can do anything from basic fire roads and power line roads to more technical areas with small hill climbs and lots of articulation. I made a r/NJ4x4 reddit post too if anyone is also on that platform.

There are definitely some changes going on in the area, but everything is open and legal to drive as long as you are respectful of the land and stick to the existing trails/roads.

I could certainly be game for a day of that.
I am not much of an organizer, so let me know when you want to make the trip down lol. I am relatively flexible as long as I have a week or two heads up. As I said before, I am only 15-20 mins from my driveway to the dirt, so it is not a big deal at all for me to get out there.

Deal! Appreciate the offer. Should be free a few weekends later in February and April into May. We'll all try to coordinate something to make this happen.

Born and raised in north jersey.... No accent here. haha. We are all about Bald Eagle. Haven't explored any of the neighboring forests yet... might try this spring.

Keep us posted about upstate. I'm definitely interested in a meet if it works with the schedule.

I'm in NYC. Would be down for a meetup/trails one day. Although not sure how much off roading I'll do with stock suspension/ride height and factory Michelin rubber :)

That's one thing I really like about it out here. You can pick and choose what you feel comfortable doing. Most of the places I take people to are 100% accessible by stock trucks (brought a bone stock Tacoma out there a few months ago) via maintained fire roads, but what obstacles you attempt at the fun spots are up to you.

And trust me, it is much better to be stock and go with at least one other vehicle than to do a bunch of modifications and go out solo. Plus, it can give you a good baseline on how much any mods you may want have improved your performance.
