What's the "dilemma"? If your looking for a really slooowww truck, buy it!:D

The head quality, my commute is 20 miles (@ 6.5 mpg:mad:) round trip a day. I can deal with slow, I cannot deal with a busted, impossible to replace head shortly after I drop that amount coin on it.

Which brings me to another point. If the head is that bad how would it be with a little turn and bigger turdblow?.......see

I need to get my over head down so....old VW Diesel (naaaa), Enduro (o.k) or ???

What the heck are you driving now with such bad gas mileage ?

Seems to me that better investment would be to spend that money on a smaller car for you commute back and forth to work.
As you said, it's a risk with that diesel.
Also, not sure where you're at, but diesel is expensive here in S. AZ, more that premium gas per gallon and neither will be coming down much anytime soon, at least not for long.

After reading this thread I'm not quite sure what your looking for but here is a link to a company that sells kits to mate VW TDI's to Toyota Transmissions. Their more into installing them in zuki's but can be done in a Toy too. My sisters Jetta TDI gets 45mpg on the highway and they can be chipped to increase power.

ACME ADAPTERS Suzuki Samurai Turbo Diesel

If you are so worried about this diesel engine and mpg, why don't you look in another direction?

If I had the opportunity to pick up this truck for the price, I'd jump on it. Even the 2 wheel drives routinely go for 4-5k on ebay. The older 2LT's don't have a whole lot of horsepower from what I've heard, but about the same amount of torque as a 22r. They're also not as notorious for cracking heads as the newer 2LTII's and 2LTE's. In good running condition, I think that you'd be able to expect 25-30 mpg. For a lot more info check out. I think its funny how people that dont have a diesel toyota are so knowledgable on how bad they are but people who own them love them.

That is funny indeed! Some of us are busy spreading the gospel of Toyota Diesel. I can only do so much guys, someone else better pick up the pace!
