Just looking for some extra opinions here.

I have an older model MRFT60 fridge, which i love. The compressor however, has developed a pretty nice knocking noise and as a result, the cooling unit needs to be replaced (it is all one piece). It still functions fine but nothing something you want to listen to while in the truck.

There is a therford service center about an hour from me and they quoted about $600 to repair it.

I'm torn on whether to drop $600 into this or just get a new model, slightly smaller 45Qt unit for almost the same price.

Any thoughts?

If same price fix what you have. You will miss the extra space if you downsize. I imagine the repair service comes with a warranty!

If you can locate a cooling unit, it would be pretty easy to swap it out. That said, if you decide not to repair it and want to part it out, I could use a couple pieces.

This was my initial thought process as well. Then it occurred to me that for the price of the repair, I could likely get a newer, more efficient Norcold 45. The still function MRFT60 could stay in the garage since it works fine and be the garage beer chest.

decision decision

Invest in a new one. How old is yours? I sell Dometic but I also offer Norcold. Both are comparable products, but to repair something for $600 that might go bad again, soon, ...I don't know. These are not quite the same as a 40 year old refrigerator, (there are lots of 'em out there) that just keep on going, Boom, Boom, Boom. Maybe they suck up a lot of electricity but, they don't stop.

You could find a new unit in $7's.

If you still need parts, let me know. I have a MRFT60 that I got taken through a bad Craiglist deal. It doesn't power up. I may have the part you need.
