At 60mph if you hit a tree an 8oz flashlight has the impact force of a 60lb flashlight.Very true but if the collision is that hard and violent I would think that light may be the least of your worries.

Again very true, but if you hit a tree at 60, you’re gunna have other potential severe issues. I’m not arguing the point that it’s a potential hazard, I also have a huge box in the rear that’s not secured down too, so in reality anything not secured will be an issue. If people want to limit that potential hazard then yes remove it. It’s just my opinion that the risk is very low to have it leave It mounted. At 60mph if you hit a tree an 8oz flashlight has the impact force of a 60lb flashlight.
This is super helpful as I have been really looking at ways to get more functionality without adding more junk in the cab. I have a screen that i added to my tundra so that I have carplay and the oe setup. I did not want the same thing for the LC as I plan to have some radio mounts ontop. Great writeup. The latest addition to my 2017 LC is an Apple CarPlay unit from Beat-Sonic. Here are the pros and cons from using this unit for about a week:
Pros:
Cons:
- Apple CarPlay built-in feels like a game changer. It's so nice to have all of the maps and apps loaded, and using content from my iPhone is much more seamless.
- The videos (older and newer) were very helpful for doing the installation, which I did on my own. It took around 2.5 hours, as I was moving very slowly and didn't want to ding up the dash.
- The system is wireless, and the phone connects quickly.
- Supports swipe actions.
- The CarPlay app occupies the entire screen vs. some other units that seem to contain an Android nav bar.
- Eric at Beat-Sonic was very responsive to questions.
If you have any questions, just let me know.
- There is no volume adjustment indicator on-screen. This can be problematic when the sound isn't coming out for some reason, e.g. the stereo isn't actually on or using a different source. To get around this, I turn the volume down, then debug to prevent blowing out my speakers. But this is probably the biggest gripe and I hope they can address this in a firmware update.
- The harness was a bunch of loose wires instead of neatly taped as demonstrated in the videos.
- Some of the app icons don't render as cleanly as I would like. I don't think this is due to screen resolution (which isn't great in a 2017 LC), but rather, an issue with how they are rendered by the system. It's a minor nit, however.
- There is some lag on the screen compared to what you would experience on an iPhone.
- There's no way to use Android functionality without an Android phone. I'm not sure if this is true of all units or just this one.
- The written install instructions could be improved a bit, but I was able to manage.
