Well I've had this noisy speaker in the truck for a while.
I got around to pulling it out of the truck just before the rain started here..(again)

I'd like to put the same speakers ( might as well get two) back into it..TOO much fiddling to go with another brand..

This speaker is beyond repair..all rotted.. (well it could be reconed I guess) The foam surround has turned to a tary kind of sludge..:frown:

Anyway the Toyota part number is 86160-22591..That's what is inked on the back of the magnet.
Are these a standard Toyota part.??
Any idea where to get a replacement..?? (toyota dealer?)
6" dia. with only 2 mounting tabs as part of the speaker frame.

Took the speaker to Best buy and the guy I talked to was a real dick, he was talking down to me and nothing I said was right, so I gave him a piece of my mind and left him with his tail between his legs..(OH! did I just say that??) I guess I did.:D

The speakers fitted when new were only 2nd grade 16 years ago,go to a car stereo shop and see what they got.
Speakers come in standardised sizes and there is usually dozens,if not more options.
The ones in there are probabaly Fujitsu like the stereo.

i have put in aftermarket speakers and there is a bit of adapting to be done, nothing bolts up easily that i have found...
cheers

Find Original If Possible

Thanks guys, but I want to put the original speakers back in IF I can find them.:bounce2:
I can see that a lot of playing around would be required to put in after market speakers..Time better spent else where on the rig..
I would like to avoid that playing around .. and just bolt in some original replacements.:D

Anyone got some leeds ???? Toyota part number 86160-22591.
You may note I never take the easy way out..(at least that's the way it seems to me)..:grinpimp:

Thanks Wayne..
I presume that's ENS the Toyota dealer.

Just to finish off this thread..

I contacted My local Toyota Dealer to day with my blown speaker part number..as I was hoping for a direct bolt in replacement the part number is good..no change up.
The quoted cost for just one of the speakers was $170.00 Canadian..
And only one showing between here and California..

For that kind of money I guess I'll go into the modification buss and buy a real good pair of speakers for less than what Toyota wants for one and install myself..

Cheers..

did you check with ENS industrial? they might have take outs... not sure though but worth the phone call

So This Thread Ends

Well I went to the auto audio store to day. No not FutureWay or Best Buy..
A local upper end store..
Their tech took the old speaker and brought me back a couple of adapter plates he made in like 15 minutes..We popped in a new set of $200 DOLLAR SPEAKERS and they fit perfectly and sounded great. Just over the cost of one new speaker from Toyota.:D
BUT
while I was there my daughter started on me ... look at this dad , look over here dad, why don't you get this dad...Boy ohh boy who needs a sales man with a kid like that (at age 22 Title "Miss Shopper").
Needles to say (she got me with my will power down) I walked out with a new navigation system..AVIC-N2 ..dose everything but brush my teeth.. It is also installed in my cruiser and I must say works extremly well.. $$$$$$$$$$$$not cheap:eek:  . (Hey if you are lonly it dose talk..;) )

So ends (with my empty wallet) this speaker thread..

I just got a 91 lj78. the back speakers started buzzing very soon after I got it. I replaced those with Clarions. Had to use some large washers drilled for the mounting location. they are holding up fine. Now the in dash speakers have gone, same as the back ones, all rotted around the edges. Toyota said I can buy 70 series speakers on special order from Japan. My question is; will these fit in the 78 dash. The dash appears to be the same as a bj74 I had.

thanks

I have never had the front speakers out to look at them and could not tell you if the speakers are common to each model.
Mine seen to be holding up ok at this point and are not making any sort of bad sounds..So I leave well enough alone.
The old rear speakers as yours completly gone around the edges.
I replaced those.

I would suggest an after market speaker of a better sort than a Toyota speaker.
I got a really good rear SET for less than the cost of one Toyota replacement and I would think that you could do the same for the fronts.

Of course the only way to tell what speakers are in the front dash and how they are mounted is to remove them..Unless some one else has been there and done that.

i have found that all 4 of my speakers are compelatly gone.

The rears were not bad to change just had to do some mod aka contact cement and spacer , the front pasanger side was not bad to change but the frnt driver side is a bitch still working on it .

I have found that the speakers that i have put in still clip and sound bad .
I was told that the deck dose not have the power to run the speakers wich are rated for 65 watts. I prob have to by a new deck or at least an amp but i belive that i will go with the new deck just to get a functioning raido as well.

Can anyone tell me the easy way to install the rhd side speaker in dash . thanks

pull the dash guage package, pull the side vent and you are there...
