Hi

I have an issue where the truck will not start normally. I turn the key and hear the relay, but no click. I will say this is consistent after the temperature is cold.
Here area couple of tests I've performed:

  • I have checked the relay by testing the ohms and directly putting power to the lugs (I heard the click).
  • I performed the starter test by jumping the relay - the truck turned right over.
  • Tested the battery - 12.4 while not running
Any ideas?

Thanks!

May be neutral lock off switch. But IIRC, you'd not hear the relay. Perhaps you hear something else. Often times if neutral switch. We can shift to "N" Or slam into P and starts up. If a tired or loose neutral switch, which is on side of transmission.

May be immobilizer. Console security light, should go off. The moment you insert IG key, if master key used. A few blinks then off, if slave. Those would be signs, working as should. Security Light not going out, when same key used that has been used before issue. Is sign of circuit fault. Most are in fuse box. Search immobilizer, for jumper fix.

Since jumping fuse box works to start. Not likely issue with voltage drop, after battery. But check down stream voltage the same as on battery post.

If any aftermarket battery switching etc.. Say a second battery. Double check, that all connection sung and volts.

As soon as you posted this, I ran out to garage to test. When I put the IG SW to on, then shift the neutral, then try to start - it cranks right over with no hesitation. I think it might be the neutral switch.

Likely. If repeats 3 times. Clean and adjust or replace SW. Or just keep shifting as needed.

Because of this massive snow storm - I will have to keep shifting as needed. Huge thanks to you for pointing me in the right direction.
