No longer real time help or ignition problem... broken timing chain/bent valve(s)...

have a buddy crank it while you measure for voltage at the coil. use an analog meter, so you can see it better. try using both probe at the coil, and then one probe ground, and check each terminal individually.

at least if you see fluctuating voltage you know the igniter is working. then try yet another coil.

Still at this folks.... If anyone has any more thoughts I'm open to them. Turns out the igniter I swapped in was out of a running truck.... So that's out..... I'm going to tear into the harness in the drivers wheel well as Hilux suggested, and see what I find... I have had the inner fenders out for a few years, so maybe that has caused an issue.....

It's pretty hot here today... 96 in the shade..... Guess where my truck is parked? If you guessed shade, you guessed wrong! :D So I'm going to wait till this evening.

Yeah, I tried the running V6 coil, and igniter, plus a coil out of a 60 (still waiting to hear if that is/was a good coil) Plus the new one from Napa....... Something's not adding up..... My brain hurts! :D

MAN, you have tested, replaced tried every thing that I can think of.... but the computer it self.. I am not sure that there is any thing in the computer that would stop spark... but. that is the only thing I see left..
look at the manual is there one of those inertia switches? that shuts down everything in a wreck?

good luck.. post up what you find, this is one for the old memory banks...

This is the way the timing chain breaks...

Not with a bang, but a whimper......

Turns out you don't get any spark when your cam shaft isn't turning the distributor.....

I ran out of day light, but I know for sure the drivers side (It was a metal guide Engnbldr kit with around 30k on it) chain guide lost it's top section, and the chain was hung just perfectly so the 2 broken ends were at the very bottom, just touching the crank sprocket.... No noise, no grinding, no bang. I thought I'd stalled it!!!! Don't know about the valves yet.... They all go up and down still, I think I'll check all the valve clearances tomorrow, and if they check out, maybe I didn't bend any.... Fingers crossed. Stay tuned!

So far, it looks like I got lucky..... we'll see after tomorrow..... I couldn't believe the chain was perfectly centered and just hanging there.... Who knows.... Hehehe  Wristy, I'll get your dist back to you soon, as I probably don't need it now! Hehehe

You got that thing running yet Jerod? :D

Watch it!!! buster! :D You're sooooo funny! Hehehe

Wristy, that's good to know, I hope I don't need it....

Mark, I think I may have got lucky.... I'll check to see if all the valves are closing all the way (IE back to the 7-11 they were set at...) and if so I'd reason that I didn't bend any. Does that sound like I'm thinking right on this? The cam was resting at a spot where none of the valves were wide open, so I'm hoping I can just throw a chain on there and run it.

Although, the chain did do some grinding on the bolt heads that mount the drivers side chain guide.... So we'll see what I find in the pan.

Only 30k??????

Man, that blows and certainly does not make me feel good about the kit I just put in from him.

I hope all is well.

EZ timing chain diagnosis

Also good for buying a nonrunning truck.

remove distriutor CAP

turn motor over

if the button does not move the TC is broke.

(Not to make 2ngen sound inept, just in case anyone else could use the info)
