No Dynamic Cruise Control?

You’re not missing much. I have a 13 with the radar cruise and I turn it off a lot and just do normal cruise. It’s just too sensitive even on the closest setting and it downshifts too much to maintain speed. It will hit the brakes even when there is a decent gap in traffic. It’s like how a timid grandma would drive.

It’s nice on the open highway with light traffic but otherwise I hardly use it.

That interesting, thank you.

Our IS is in for the 60K service right now, they gave me a new NX as a loaner. Not crazy about the car as a whole, but I did get to use the new goodies like radar cruise and lane assist. The radar cruise is MUCH better than my '15 LC, quite usable. The lane assist thing is initially annoying but once you get used to it, it's kinda handy. Auto high beams works well too.

This automation stuff will only get better as they get it tweaked.

Radar cruise was optional on the LX from 08-15, and it's more common on the 13-15 but certainly isn't on all of them. It wasn't available on the 08-11 LC, but all LCs got it starting in 13. The 16+ version in both the LC and the LX works much better than the earlier system (I've had both and the newer one is far smoother and more seamless), but it is a nice to have feature regardless.

My pleasure. It definitely acts like a 1st gen radar cruise IMHO.

Like I mentioned earlier, the first gen systems aren’t amazing, but it is much better on the 16+. I wouldn’t let a first gen radar cruise guide my decision buy or not buy a truck, but it’s nice to have.

^Haha! Nothing but a smooth wake behind me...maybe.

So at least 1 person finds a way to successfully use all automation. How are you not falling asleep? Or are you busy watching a movie with that audiophile grade surround sound.
It’s funny but I don’t consider operating wipers or dimming headlights to be a major part of driving. As someone who is in the upper percentile of ‘liking to drive’ I find that little functions like automatic transmissions and electric starters add to my driving experiences. I am perfectly willing to let the truck handle mundane tasks like searching for radio stations and tipping the mirrors in reverse which leaves me to concentrate on the steering and braking. I remember when we had a ‘58ish Mercury Parklane which had a search function on the radio and an automatic headlight dimmer but neither functioned very well, unlike the Lexus.
And no movies yet because what’s out the windshield is way more interesting.

How do you turn radar cruise off for standard cruise? Did not know this is even poassible

After turning cruise on, push the control stalk forward and hold for about 3 seconds - mode will switch from radar to regular.

HTH

I used radar cruise all the time on Los Angeles freeways. Very much enjoyed this feature that came standard with the '13+ LCs. It'd be perfect if it actually went all the way down to 0 mph for stop-and-go traffic.

I use the Radar Cruise all the time on long road trips, works pretty good. I do wish they would refine it a bit so it was smoother...

The technology is there for topography to be programmed into the navigation units. All it would take is a seamsless downshift prior to reaching the start of the ascent to maintain the powerband during the climb. Instead, the retarded cruise control lugs along until your speed is less than your set point. If finally decides to downshift and floor it to make up for the speed loss in an endless game of cat and mouse.

I was having the same struggles until I decided to augment the cruise with the gas pedal. It feels like the cruise is trying too hard to keep the ECO light on. I also get frustrated when the truck doesn’t follow as close as I want to follow so now I engage about .5% of my attention and use the throttle to follow as close as I want and to keep my speed up on hills.
