I've been reading about these issues for months but never had a major issue till this morning.
I got my 62 in March of 2013. The batt in it wasn't great but I never had starting issues. I had the usually electrical issues, dim headlights, low voltage when several items were on, etc, but the voltage at the battery was always strong, and alt was tested and fine.
Occasionally there would be a loud click and a tiny hesitation on the starter, but never did it not start and engage.
This morning I had the click and en nothing. Heavy voltage draw while holding key in the start position but nothing. I turned the key about a dozen times and eventually it started.
I replaced the battery last week and it has been charging and voltage has been as expected.
I replaced the ground batt cables last year, and even added 2 more grounds from batt to engine and body.
Only thing I can think of is that it's been wet this week, and this morning temp was below freezing. There was ice all over car. Maybe starter was wet inside and froze?
Or just time for a rebuild and the cold affected it?
Not a battery or cable issue as it worked all the time, even when the old battery was weak and under 12 volts.
The new batt is at 12.5 volts at rest and has a ton of cold cranking amps.
