There is an optional feature,built-in receiver, 02 to now, I think.

Yeah, the grainy photo is not clear enough on whether it is bolted on or slide in/out hitch.

Amando and I installed this optional feature on his 99 custom rear bumper last year and it does required welding and plasma cutting work.

Jay

I have noticed this feature on several LX470's recently. Flush mount and nothing hanging down. This piece may be a good place to start with when building a custom bumper? Could you actually use this hitch to strengthen the mounting points of the bumper or is this just gravy to the bumper mounting points?

In my opinion, Amando's bumper is how the bumper SHOULD be from the factory.

The built in receiver is standard on the 04-05 LXs, perhaps the 03 as well. I kinda like the look of the added/bolted receiver so I went ahead and ordered the OEM one. Bolted right up.

Amando and I made this rear custom bumper (sheet metal is 3/16" thick) and bolted it to the rear crossmember AND two frames plus side brackets.

The optional receiver is bolted to BOTH custom bumper and rear crossmember 50/50.

The recovery points you see on the rear bumper is bolted directly to the frame, thru the holes of custom bumper itself.

We never intended for the receiver to pull 30' boat trailer, just M416 class, no more than 3000 lbs max but suitable for off road condition with max clearance.

Obviously, this is the best off-road design we've seen for a 100 yet.
Question:

With the 100's excess length, was there a reason you didn't decide to cut/shorten the frames to tuck the bumpers in more?

I ask because I haven't looked under there. If I buy another 100 (looking for one now...or another 80), that's my plan though it might be a pain. Any info?

As I last recalled, Amando want to keep the option of having tire carrier spindle attached to his custom rear bumper.

Chopped off the rear crossmember will result a flushed rear end but no option for future tire carrier.

The current design also gives a extra space from the rear body panel when backing up to the (unseen) boulder rocks.

But of course, Amando and I are not 100% satified this rear bumper design!

Perfect for LA freeways. When can I place an order?

You can see that it has coil overs. I was told that it is there to supplement the torsion bars and not as a replacement.

John, one of the reason I didn't want to cut the frame is that if you take the stock rear bumper off - its only a few bolts - the frame design sits almost flush to the body unlike on the 80. Jay and I just just followed the lines of the rear part of the frame to get that shape. So basically behind that rear bumper sitting flushed is the frame.

Ahhhh, excellent information. Thanks much. Well, they are two different birds (the 80 and 100). Looks like you guys got it right!

Are you saying you have TWO hitches on your rig? Much of my reason for getting a Slee bumper was because I didn't want the hitch hanging down so low.

Hoser,

Yes, by popping out the plastic rectangular cover piece on the rear bumper I can access it. The OEM hitch does not really hang any more than the spare tire, however the actual receiver does stick a bit further out which would affect my departure angle.
I simply wanted the added protection of a bolt on hitch. The only thing I don't like is that the wire harness plug does sit lower than the hitch and spare tire. I'll have to do something about that.

BTW: BF A/T KO's 31575R16s are on their way! :grinpimp:

Some offroader like me choose to leave OEM hitches underneath to protect the stock (plastic) rear bumper until the hardened rear bumper is in place.

Although my 2000 TLC do have four holes hitches underneath the stock plastic rear bumper, it is NOT the same width as the optional receiver's four holes, it is too narrow by 3/4" and no opening square hole.

That is the modification, a wider holes and new opening square hole (2" x 2" thru) we made to Amando's standard rear crossmember before we can inserted the optional receiver.

What? You guys didn't want one of these "bumper-bumpers" instead? Lol.

Nice job on Amando's bumper, Snook! Looks pretty slick.

Yeah Jaos makes nice stuff BUT some of their parts don't apply to others :) just like those $300+ mud flaps.

CTapia -

There are only two bolts holding the plug under there. Unbolt those, then undo the quick release wire plug (and tape up the other end to prevent dirt from getting in there) and store the whole thing in a bag somewhere. Then, when you want to hook it up and tow, simply remove the tape on the quick release wire plug under the truck, bolt on the tow plug, plug the two harness ends together, and viola!
