I’m screening some FJ’s for purchase and import here in Riyadh. Have a 79 FJ43 canvas top in the driveway now, and am specifically looking for a Troopy. I have some questions about identification and import laws to the US. Maybe someone could tell me if I could proceed with these questions here? Thanks.

Look in the classified section or check out some of the vendors that import vehicles.

I believe there are some threads that deal with importing vehicles yourself, if that is the way you want to go.

There may be more in the diesel or 70 series forums.

I would verify the production date of that FJ43. Few things on that cruiser look to be pre 1/79 production. If made in the last few months of 78 could possibly titled as a 79. Big difference between 78 and 79. One of them was a 22 1/2 gallon fuel tank mounted under the tub on the 79 model verses a 16 1/2 gallon fuel tank under the passenger seat on the 78 model.

Ok, would it make more sense that it’s a ‘77? It has no vin tag on the firewall, or A-pillar. The chassis vin has at least one if not 2 characters welded over from a shotty collision repair to strengthen the bumper reinforcement. I’ll attach a few pics. I am going to pass on this one and move on looking for another. For importing reasons alone, I believe that it doesn’t have the required identification needed. Thanks.
