Well, I've been a little remiss in keeping this up to date (and I promise to finish the stop-motion video of the rebuild), but wanted to crow about the debut of "Uncle Chris" at our local car show this past weekend... been a great learning experience over the past three years, and now it's time to drive it till its rusty again. Thanks to everyone who provided such great advice and spiritual guidance.

What a great thread and story! Honoring your friend by taking on something he loved speaks volumes of your character. I lost my brother recently and also plan on honoring him by restoring his 1976 FJ40. Losing him still hurts but having the oppurtunity to finish something he loved is very special. You have done your friend proud. Nice work.

finished project looks amazing. Would you mind posting photos of your dash here? I’m also rebuilding a ‘67 and it’s very hard to find good dash layout pictures.

Thanks!
Charles

Of course without taking apart the metal bits, there's no way of knowing, but emotionally I feel better! It was just a thin coating, but that has to be doing something.
