Hello Guys, I am new to the cruiser world. I purchased my 73 FJ40 project just last week with a busted LSD in the rear. The unit came apart pretty good on the last guy and I was hoping to find a used third member to rebuild. I can rebuild this one, but I was hoping to find one that hasnt been through the carniage. I am sticking with the stock 4.10's for now but I am adding an aussie while it is out. Does any one in the local area have a third member or entire axel that they would be willing to part with? Also any advice on do's and dont's with these axels would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and by the way the tires are 39.5 Boggers, a little beefy for my taste but in great shape and someone else took the beating buying them. I realize these are a drive train nightmare, but at this point I am wanting to get running.

Thanks in advance for any help.

WELCOME!!!
Being a fellow member of the 39073, I would love to help.
But I am an operator not a mechanic.:frown:
Somebody will help with some direction I'm sure.
Good Luck! Hope to see you soon on Main Street.

See the above poster for your tire needs! He can be located at 49 tire. Come see me at POL after the UCI (please) and we'll talk. I'll continue my search for a 3rd or axle.

Axel or axle? Either is cool with me. Welcome.

Welcome!....I am also from Florence. PM me if I can help. I dont have a third...sorry.

Well, I'm not from Florence.....but I've been known to visit from time to time. I have a complete rear axle if that's what you are looking for. It's no big deal putting an Aussie in but I'd want to talk to you about this before you do it. I'm not a real big fan of "lunchbox" lockers in the rear. Love 'em in the front though!

The mases have spoken...

Axel Foley it is...

Is this the truck with the 327 in it?

Thanks guys for the welcome's, and the grammer lessons.:) Yes this is the truck with the 327 in it. I am new to this fourm stuff and was unsure how to put the signature that list the details of the rig. Aparently this truck has been around for a while as many people are fimiluar with it. Either way, it seems to have spent the last years as a mud bog rig on the river and it shows. It still has potential and with what I paid up front I am not in to deep. I basically bought the truck for what the tires are worth.

welcome! are you still wanting your 40 for mud or are you going to get into rocks?

I dont know that I will be heading to any rocks for some time. Most of what I have done in the past is trail ride at Deer Camps and take the family for a cruise on the weekend. As far as the tires, I love the look and the performance. However I am concerned with the wear and tear that 40" boggers will produce. Not to mention if I spend much time on pavement they will last about as long as a couple of oil changes. I am running 35" toyo MT's on my daily driver and I love them. If I thought I could get a decent price for my boggers I probably purchase some 37" x 14.5's. toyos for the MUTT with some soft 8's or bead locks. My main goal right now is to get the rig rolling and see how it pulls with the current, tires, gears and power. I have only driven this truck so far in four high with just the front pulling; kinda hard to gage.

I haven't ridden in that truck in several years but when I did it was a damn beast.

If my Grandfather would have had a tractor that pulled like that thing, he would have never quit farming.

No one has given him the official welcome... :flipoff2: There ya go. Welcome to the madness!

Thanks for the welcome. To update, I have found a parts FJ for $300 with complete running gear except engine. I hope to pick it up later this week. Its amazing what a post on craigslist will do.

Not sure on the front brakes. I will post when I know more.

Let me know if you parts truck has a good set of fenders. If so I am interested in em.
