Howdy! My 22 4R was wrecked about a year ago and instead of picking up another 4R, I found a 23 GX460 Premium at the Lexus dealer next door to the Yota dealership. Only had 15k miles, and so far is friggin’ awesome! I’m in the process of building it up now. It will be documented in an article I’ll drop a link to once it’s published. The only seats left in it are the front two, everything else is gone in favor of a complete Goose Gear “overland” type package with drawers. Bilstein 8112 front / 8100 Bypass rears, new front UCA’s, a few other things, some bumper cutting, 17x9 Fuel Beast (-12 offset) with 285/70/17 Nitto Terra Grappler G3’s.

Meh, who am I kiddin? I yanked the seats out to make room for the dogs. I’m pretty excited taking the GX460 out and playing with it once it’s a little taller. 😎

Thank you! And a big thanks to the mods for moving it for me. I’m not much of a tech minded person. I began wheeling in 05 with Jeeps. Wife wanted a “luxury vehicle” type of SUV, but she also humors me, and has for about few decades now. She knows that I tinker with pretty much everything, and the GX460 is no different.

I’ll admit though, I feel weird driving a Lexus.😜 I’m born, raised, and then spent a career myself, all blue collar. 😎 I’ll probably do the LC rear spare tire carrier / swing gate conversion in the near future and put Yota badging on it…🤣

Congrats on your new Toy! LOVE your red seats! 😍 These GX's are sublime compared to the 4R's in comfort and power. My wife and I came from a couple of 100 series LC's and were blow away at how much better these GX's are.
Just need a little trimming of the bumpers to make them their cousins (4R) equal. But it sounds like you'll be swapping out for some armor anyways, so that's probably a moot point.

Thanks! Yeah, for now, it will wear the new BackPac Bumper filler and radiator guard while I heal from the beating my wife is soon to give me for spending the money on this…. Skid Plate package with diff guards first, then rock rails, then front bumper, and finally a rear bumper. It will be a work in progress, that’s for sure. And I don’t heal as fast as I used to either….😜

You are one of the few people on here that have a plan for their build in the correct order, or at least the way I build. Start with under carriage protection first, since it doesn't take much with a stock vehicle to drop hard on a rock or tree stump on what seemed like a tame dirt road.
THEN go with the sexy stuff, e.g.: rock sliders, front and rear bumpers, big 'ol tires, etc. Albeit, after being T-boned (broad sided), rock sliders really saved my vehicle from either a bent frame and/or much more damage. So I do hold rock sliders in much higher regard for their broad side safety.

I can definitely appreciate your reasonings for rock sliders. That’s one of my main reasonings for wanting them. 😁 My old 05 LJ Rubicon was armored all the way around. Seriously, it was a damn tank and people gave me a wide berth driving down the road. Problem was, it never passed a gas station it didn’t like.

The guy who got me into wheeling back a couple of decades ago was crazy in the woods. He was all armored up, especially underneath. His philosophy was that if he wasn’t sure if he could make it, he’s just give it plenty of skinny pedal and skip across. He was awesome to ride with…..if my belly is armored I’m good. If my diffs and lower control arms are armored, and I’ve got rock sliders I’m great. After that, I’m going to upgrade my brakes. Then after the bumpers, I’ll be a “luxury” tank…. 😂🤪

Welcome, you will love your GX! I did the same thing removing all but the two front seats. I had a Truckvault custom built as I got tired of waiting for Goose Gear to come out.

The "guy" who got you into wheeling obviously wasn't driving a Lexus! As I tell my 4x4 club buddies when on the trail who all have Jeeps, "Yeah, I do that, but I don't want to buckle any doors or fenders." Jeeps are a lot cheaper to repair than our GX's.
