Hi guys,
I've seen a number of this same issue on here but not finding a solution that works for the problem of a new Weber 32/36 carb not starting after install. I have a 1F motor in a 70 FJ40 that was recently rebuild here locally. It was running fine but the single barrel carb that was on it was struggling and I was told undersized as well. I bought the 32/36 with manual chock as I want to keep this as close as possible to original. I purchased the Mr. Gasket regulator and have it at 2.5 currently but still can't get the engine to fire, I checked spark as well. Love to hear any advice.. Thanks

Pour a little gas into the carb and see if it fires up. If all you did was change the carb then you probably aren’t getting fuel like maybe stuck floats.

Not a Weber guy. Try some starting fluid with the choke open and see if will start. Fuel pressure is more in the 4-6 psi I think. Pull the hose off on the regulated side and make sure fuel is pumping out

I'll try all these, it as getting fuel for sure because it started leaking out of the manifold bolts..

PSI shouldn’t be more than 4 from my research. Not a weber guy either but it’s what is on my rig🤷🏽

Maybe the float is stuck (tap the carb a few times with a rubber mallet), or it is out of adjustment, perhaps the needle valve dry rotted on the shelf. Pull the plugs and whirl it over to dry out the cylinders.

I'll try all this, it's not an electric pump, and i regulated the fuel down to 2.5 - 3. Should I try to get the fuel out of the carb before continuing?

When i installed my last carb, i couldn't get it running either. I had blown the ignition fuse when the choke wire hit the block while it was hot, ignition on. 🤷🤷
I had to adjust jets to my altitude in Denver too

I downloaded all the tuning instructions for idle set up.

Can't remember what else...

I have a 38/38 synchronous carb.

1974 1.5F

She SCREAMS now!!

Gets less than 10 mpg

Never had the original carb when i picked it up in 2009. Most else original though.

Hope it helps

I’m going to need to re-Jet as well since my base is about 650’ and I’m bringing my rig to my 10,000’ property. Have a feeling I’ll be messing with jets a bit…

Hey guys,
Well I pulled all the plugs (this time all not just one) and 4 looked like the below, not sure why this happened but I'm thinking it might have been the old carb, they way it was running made me think it had some sort of fuel issue. I've never see plugs get this bad and impossible to clean... So I got the regulator adjusted to 2.5 and now this things runs great, idles perfect and when I opened it up in 3rd gear it never hesitated much, I think I need to adjust the carb a little and will research more this week, thanks to all you guys, B Y R O N was a huge help, if anyone has input on why the plugs gummed up so fast I'd love to know why, was it too much starting fluid?
Thanks again

So what is the compression dry/wet? My guess is your rings are shot but you could try some Marvel's mystery oil (to soak in for a few days) in each fouled jug and hope it frees up the oil control rings.
You said the quiet part out loud.
