Sorry if this was covered, do you have to delete the factory rack? Some of these post install pics almost look like some of the factory rack is still there?

I still have the strips on my white 80, not on my daughters green 80.

Either way, like @Marco Lau stated, the factory rack has to go. It's too bad those racks are even on there. Very few were sold without. The "poverty pack" 80's are pretty rare in the US.

Just an idea, though I know as a business owner you have to draw the "feature line" SOMEWHERE, but if you had an add on option for $10-20, or whatever the cost of hardware would be to delete the rack, it would be a nice little bonus feature that guys like me who are too busy to hit hardware stores would snatch up in a heartbeat. The only weekend projects I seem to get to these days are the ones that get drop shipped on a Friday with EVERYTHING I need to install it without a trip into town. Else it just sits for months.....

Just friendly input. I really like the design. I'm hoping to get an awning this year and this just might push me into doing it!

Dude, these are mint. I caught a glimpse in that youtube vid of the toyo engineers rig and paused the video to search it. Bonus that you are a mud member!
Two questions for you, what is the possibility of doing a dual cab version? And... International postage OK?

Going on a spring break road trip tomorrow with my kidfs so 3 more racks getting packed up tonight to ship tomorrow. Cutting the OSB bases for packaging, it seems to work really well to get the racks cross country unscathed.

Mine arrived flawlessly packaged this way. Here are a few pics for those interested. It’s a brilliant product. Thank you.

@dogfishlake - what are the external dimensions of the flat "platform" portion of the rack? And how close does it come to the rear edge of the roof? How close does it come to the rear spoiler when the hatch is open?

Thanks!

David

The flat area is basically 51" wide by 80" long. The end of the side rails are right to the back of the roof but the rear crossbar is in a few inches from that. The spoiler is short of the side rails when the hatch is open. The intention of the large hole in the back of the sides is for a roller for helping to get items (canoe) up there. There is room for a 3" bumper roller across the back while still leaving room if the hatch (with spoiler) is open.

Perfect. Thanks!

the more i see this rack... the more i think.....
Those side rails (without the cutouts), the spoiler & flat section on the rear, thick, up to 1/4" / 3/8" would make for a great base for a pop up. .......

Just saying .....

Look in the expedition section or camping section, we have been nagging @dogfishlake in one of those threads about this idea.

The wheels are turning. I have been getting some help from @fj62max with ideas too.

I DON'T USUALLY TYPE IN ALL CAPS. BUT THIS IS A EMERGENCY. I NEED YOU TO GET WITH THIS COMPANY, AND MAKE A POP-UP WITH YOUR RACK DESIGN, AND THEIR TENT DESIGN.

Tent design (pop top) is pretty standard. I am ordering material and just building a top and bottom shell to start with something to lay my eyes on and see what it needs for refinement.

Whats your best suggestion for sealing up the holes from the OEM rack? Will you be adding a kit by chance to make it easier???

Edit- been wanting one of these since before I owned my truck. Love at first site!

I plugged mine w/ bolts and silicone. Bout as easy as you'll get.
