Yes, my new Vanity Call Sign arrived today - N6MUD! My Old Call sign I have had for over ten years was KG6FIV. N6MUD is much easier to say and it has a much better sound to it.

If you hear me on 20 mtrs or 40 mtrs HF, plesae say HI

I'm shooting for getting my license this winter.
N6Mud is a pretty cool call sign.

Wow great to see another MUD ham out there!

SD Cruiser...My wife, son and I were camped next to you at SNT. I recall your comment on chatting overseas on HF on Sunday. Pretty cool. Congrats on the callsign, that is definitely a keeper.

Just took and passed my Technician license on Saturday...now the hardest part of getting HAM...waiting for the ULS to post my call sign before I can hit the TX button. It helps that I am in the middle of installing my Yaesu FT8900 into my rig, but that is a whole other post to come.

 and patiently pinging the ULS multiple times every day!

Steve

Hi Steve, Congrats on your ticket. Let me know if you want any hints on installing the Yaesu - FT8900. Nice radio by the way!

PM me if you want to try and chat via repeators. I know of a few linked systems that would enable us to chat.

Craig

I like PismoJim's call sign too - KI6TLC

I considered a "TLC" suffix when I got my vanity call sign, but decided that "MUD" is easier for other (non-Cruiser) ham operators to hear on-air and remember.

Just got my ticket this morning from the FCC. Only took four business days, which is IMHO really quick for any .gov organization.

KJ6xxx (PM me for the xxx part if you like). The best part is that my sign essentially is part of my given name, so no need to go with a vanity sign at this point.

 and 73

Steve

what is the fee on teh vanity call sign? Does it last the life of the normal lic or does it require renewal yearly or something like that? I'm totally new to HAM..just passed tech class lic a week or so ago and call sign showed up on the FCC web page a week later.

Congratulations on your ticket!

A vanity call sign costs $14.20 and is good for the same 10-year life of your license (you can renew it without re-applying every ten years). You can apply for one here: FCC Universal Licensing System (ULS): ULS Home

There is lots of info on vanity call signs over on the ARRL web site also: Vanity Call Signs

OK thanks...previously I saw where you could apparently look for vanity call signs...assume that would be for the purpose of seeing if anyone already had the one you wanted. I might get one...along the lines of something that would be easy for me to remember.

Bingo. When you apply, you can list as many as 12 possible call signs (IIRC) and they will give you the first one on your list that is available, but a little homework ahead of time on QRZ.com or another similar web site (that lets you search for call signs) will pretty much tell you what is available, by trial and error. Lots of folks use their initials or some part of their name that fits the three-letter part of the suffix. You can also be eligible for a shorter call sign by getting your General and Extra Class tickets.

Now that's a cool call sign. I wish I'd thought of that ... HI HI.

That's cool, I like it.

My buddy has KJ4STV. His name is Steve and he drives a jeep liberty (KJ). Although I am more of a purist and like to keep the prefix and district part intact (K6 in my case).

Very cool call. I have had my vanity call for over 10 years. WY6NN it's a hell of allot better than KB6YZD my original call and my new call is my last name... Good for contesting too. A Land Cruiser based one would be cool but I gonna stick with the one I got for now.
