Dome top pistons are no longer available from any source for 75-80 2F engine, especially in useful large oversize like 1.5mm. I'm building an engine now and will be ordering a set of custom pistons w/ wristpins and updated ring package.

UPDATED 2020 PRICE:
If 3 or more sets are ordered, the price is $1059.

Expensive, yes. Good stuff, definitely yes.

Pistons are forged and machined in USA.
New wristpins.
New chromed rings.
Bore size is 3.762" vs stock 3.702". Displacement increases from 4.2L to 4.4L. Compression increases from 7.8 to 8.2 with no other changes. Mill the head a little, install flat SBC valves and CR is 8.7, which is about the max that can be run w/ tight cam timing and junk gas.

I do not have these parts yet. I'm waiting for an estimate from another manufacturer, though it's unlikely the price will be much different.

The 81-87 flattop pistons are still available from Toyota et al. So why not use those? Because there are no more flattop cylinder heads available, and they are showing a propensity for cracking in their old age, unlike the heavier open chamber 75-80 heads. If a Cruiser has a good 75-80 head, it's good policy to rebuild the engine with that head. It should last forever.

If you're interested, please post here and we'll see if we can get a group buy of sorts going for this. Or maybe I'll use my lottery winnings and get a few sets for resale.

<creeeeeak> That's the sound of the window swinging closed.

The piston order has to be placed within the week so this build can move forward.
LMK if there's interest in getting more than 1 set.

I might be interested in a set if you can wait until May15. PM me Jim if one will help.

Thanks Dave. I will post here when the order has to be placed. It will probably be in the next few days.

FWIW, initially they were gonna be from Ross, but have decided to go with Wiseco because they are much closer to me and a couple dollars cheaper. Both companies produce excellent products, IMHO. I'll list them for sale on here after I get the parts in hand and am satisfied with the results. After that, I can call Wiseco anytime and order a set of .060" over pistons & pins for 2F. Pricing will be ~$850, and rings are bought separately from Hastings for ~$130.

Update: a set of 6 pistons has been ordered from Wiseco.

Specs: Forged, stock dome, .060" oversize, with .990 wristpin. No rings, those will come from Hastings directly.

Pics will be posted when they arrive.

I am in need of a connecting rod for a 76FJ40 2F. I need the cap and rod. I would like it stamped with the original number 2 on it so it is easy to identify for the next rebuild. Do you have a used one? If not can you get a new one?

New wristpins.
New updated rings that are a little thinner & lighter than the original type.

Hi Jim, I'm looking at rebuilding a 78 2F that I believe is stock (never been bored) are you still looking at ordering Pistons or is it too late/

The pistons arrived the other day, but I hardly had time to look at them. The machine shop came & grabbed them immediately, so they could get busy boring the block to fit. The finish bored block & pistons will be back here in the next day or so. Pics will be posted up then.

Subscribing, nothing like fresh machine work for cruiser porn.

Any pics of the shiny new pistons?

The pistons did come in from Wiseco, .060" oversize, stock dome height. CR increases to 8.2 with the increase in displacement, plus the flat face SBC valves and a .020" mill raises it further to ~8.6:1. These pistons are actually heavier than stock, due to machining constraints. But that just means they are nitrous-ready. :hillbilly:
