Dome top pistons are no longer available from any source for 75-80 2F engine, especially in useful large oversize like 1.5mm. I'm building an engine now and will be ordering a set of custom pistons w/ wristpins and updated ring package.
UPDATED 2020 PRICE:
If 3 or more sets are ordered, the price is $1059.
Expensive, yes. Good stuff, definitely yes.
Pistons are forged and machined in USA.
New wristpins.
New chromed rings.
Bore size is 3.762" vs stock 3.702". Displacement increases from 4.2L to 4.4L. Compression increases from 7.8 to 8.2 with no other changes. Mill the head a little, install flat SBC valves and CR is 8.7, which is about the max that can be run w/ tight cam timing and junk gas.
I do not have these parts yet. I'm waiting for an estimate from another manufacturer, though it's unlikely the price will be much different.
The 81-87 flattop pistons are still available from Toyota et al. So why not use those? Because there are no more flattop cylinder heads available, and they are showing a propensity for cracking in their old age, unlike the heavier open chamber 75-80 heads. If a Cruiser has a good 75-80 head, it's good policy to rebuild the engine with that head. It should last forever.
If you're interested, please post here and we'll see if we can get a group buy of sorts going for this. Or maybe I'll use my lottery winnings and get a few sets for resale.
