Found this old (Made in the USA) brass fish scale at the same estate sale as the band saw (fish scale was FREE).......I don't think you can get any made in the USA today. Hoping it will be good for checking that knuckle bearing preload. Works smooth and resets back to zero. I will be able to check it's accuracy with some calibrated weights I have at work.

That's actually not a fish scale, it at least it didn't start out as one. That is a scale that a surveyor uses when pulling steel tape to measure in the field. The steel tapes they use are calibrated to have a certain amount of tension on them, and you also record and compensate for the current temperature when doing your balance calculations. This was back in the days before EDM guns and now GPS.

This is what they look like new, I have 2 of them. They are great for checking bearing preload when doing knuckle rebuilds.

PO already did an basic restoration so now it's ready to use. The 6" wide belt table does pivot up 90° and it even came with a second table and a stack of new belts!

Does yours have the little tag on the base that says "Made in Japan" like this one? That may be a good sign of quality depending on the vintage. There was a time that "Made in Japan" was not known for good quality. I think that time was like pre 1950 though.
