Just picked up this 1994 FJ80 with 190k miles on it. No rust, very good shape, and a blast to drive. I do have one question which I couldn't find a good answer to on here (just yet*): got my cracked windshield replaced a few weeks back. When I picked the LC up from the shop I realized the windshield wipers no longer worked (they worked fine when I dropped it off). I don't feel like taking it back to the shop because they aren't mechanics AND it's tough with work schedules etc. SO I'm working on fixing it myself. First checked the wiper fuse-it's fine. The wiper motor itself looks brand new (at least super clean). When I turn the car on and pull the lever for the wipers nothing happens. I don't hear any noise at the motor, nor do the wiper mechanisms attempt to move at all. It's just quiet and unmoving. Any thoughts on how to diagnose the issue without just replacing everything?

I'd bet the motor is unplugged.

Download the service manual (FSM) and wiring diagram (EWD) from the 80s section in the Resources forum. It's free and it's the authoritative source for all things 80 series.

Sweet truck.

Key on dome light on engine off. Try the wipers at any or all speeds. If the light dims you know the wiper motor is trying and you can rule out the electrical. Otherwise you can rule out the mechanical. Either way you have half your system verified before even popping the hood

Man, you guys are awesome. Thanks for the advice. Tried all this and unfortunately the motor is dead. I followed the FSM and ran wires from the battery directly to the motor-slots 1 and 3-and nothing at all happened. Dead motor. You guys agree?

I should also ask: if you agree that it's a dead motor then where do you recommend I buy a new one?

I can't speak to weather the terminals you jumped to were correct, but assuming they are, I'd agree your motor is dead. I don't think that's very common so taking one from a part-out would be my first choice.

No you need power to terminal (2) and ground at terminal (1), or power to terminal (3) and ground at terminal (1). Terminal (5) to terminal (6) should be closed (continuity) unless the motor is at the stop position.

It's not sufficient to check one function.

This is described in the System Outline and Service Hints section of the EWD.

If you're going to buy any new part, you have to weigh (not pun intended) the shipping weight against the advertised cost. The initial domestic price maybe higher, but you won't pay shipping at the dealership (it's already in the sales price). You will pay shipping online, but you won't pay tariffs if you buy domestically. You have to run the numbers and make a decision based on each individual part, if price is the deciding factor. If it's not, just buy from the dealership. At any rate, don't buy aftermarket parts; Land Cruisers don't like them.

I ran power to terminal 3 and grounded at 1. Ill try power to 2 and ground at 1 now and lyk what happens.

Tried terminal 2 and 1 as well as the manual says. Still nothing.

Not to beat a dead horse, but the battery was fully charged, right?

I guess it's dead:flush:
