Well guys....So i had my motor put in ...Had the guy come by today to put in the rebuilt carb for my 85 22r rig....I broke down a few days ago...and now i know why...The timing chain broke!!...How can a new chain brake...Could it have been installed wrong?...I am SO pissed....GRRRRRRR!!!...So this project goes on and on.....

And KLF....Ya it is possible i got stuffed by the way the so called mechanic acted at the end of this motor swap...Or a bogus chinezie chain?...I just hope i do not have to pull the head and go through all that...My money is running out....

Very interesting...So i need to find out the xact year of the block this dude sold me?....OMG..Why me?...I thought this was gonna be easy peasy japaneeze...Thank you for all the help fellas...So i need to find the right size chain?...When i ask for an 85 22R chain it may not be the right size??...Help me lord!
go to LCENGINEERING.com they tell you the differences in the different blocks and heads. Been there done that. Try to install an older head to a newer block with new chain but the chain wouldn't go on because it was to tight. so i had to have the old head decked then add a copper gasket as a shim then the head gasket. what a waste of money.

Is there a place on my block that tells the year?...A stamped code?...I cann
ot get up with the guy who sold the block to me...and i used the head that was on my last motor because the mecanic said it looked so clean bla bla?...I just dont want to repeat this over...and give my new mechanic a chain and have this happen to the next guy...or myself....

The thing about this truck is...This is not the stock motor i am dealing with(85 4x4 xtra cab)...All i know is i have a 22R head...and a 22R block...like i said guys...is there a stamp or number on the block that will tell me what year it is... so i can order the right chain?...Thank you!
need to also check that the tensioner is not binding and has full travel. tensioner is worked off oil pressure. also if too long of a bolt is used on the oil pump flangew to timing cover it will apply pressure on the tensioner causing it to bind.
Where did the motor come from and did carb guy do the chain work?

I purchased the block from a dude i found on craigslist...He was a toyota mechanic ...The carb guy said he would do my chain for 200.00...He seems smart...says he is certified ...so i am gonna tow the truck to him and have him perform the work and put on the rebuilt carb and ajust valves..compression test and or look for bent valves....the kid who put my motor in will not return my calls...And as i have been reading putting in a chain is very meticulous ...Thank you guys for this info...from what i am gathering it is very important to match head year...with block year....so dag gum...i might have to buy a new head??

Oh yeah...shady indeed...i am new to this..and did not do my home work(y'all)...The kid is shady....this carb guy seems honest and smart and fair price...all good traits for mechanic...so i hope for the best and get this truck to where i can sell....and get a 4runner to take me home to bama.
