Dope mod.

I have to say, this is amazing! How did you anchor it to the floorboard? I haven't had a chance to pull the middle console to clean it yet, so no idea how it's attached..

There are three bolts that attach the factory console to the floor. I figured out the height of the shelves so that they would rest on the factory threaded brackets. They simply bolt through the shelves to the brackets. I plan to reinforce the holes through the plywood shelves with metal. I'll try to take pictures for you.

More photos.

Worked some more on the console today. Decided to build an intermediate box to sit on top of the ammo box. Also hides the lock for the secure storage. I used memory foam and a nostalgic piece of canvas from my past for the cushion.

Paint and installation

We decided on tan to make the box less noticeable inside Dingo. Plus the green was flaking off the can. Mounted easily and am now looking for locations for cupholders.

haha you beat me to it. nice work

Thanks to all for the encouraging comments. Wish I had the time to make these for others, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Though it is great stress relief from my day job.
Total cost in materials was approx $75 including the box (plus $15 for 12V receptacles):
20mm can $30
1/4 sheet 5/8 ply approx $9
Piano hinge $ 10
cabinet handle $3
magnetic latches (2) $ 5
cabinet lock $ 5
misc hardware (nuts, bolts, screws) $5
Krylon Fusion spraypaint $6
12v receptacles $15
Total labor was about 9 hours. Would probably be less than 5 now that I know the design.
Now I have to figure out cupholders...;)

Cheers,
Greg

What type of seat covers are those? I like them very much.

Also, thank you for your service to our country. It is appreciated.

Justin

Thanks. Seat covers are from Specter (sor.com). I like them a lot. Very durable and comfortable.

Dude, I want one. What did you cut the ammo can with? I'll be the first to pop for one when you quite your job and go full time at making consoles 8-)

Thanks, I would have to crank out quite a few consoles to maintain the lifestyle to which my family has grown accustomed. :)

To cut the box I used a grinder with cutoff wheel on the straight edges and a Bosch jigsaw to cut the curves. I smoothed the edges with a flap disc sander on the grinder.

Cheers,
Greg

Now with real cup holders

Installed a double cup holder at the rear of the console. Rear seats still fold forward and not in the way of the front seats.
Ready to roll!

ballin!!!

Oh Yeah...My unit is at the range next week...woner if .50 cal or 40mm boxes will work.

Those cold brews look like they could use an opener. Maybe attached incognito to the console.

My attempt.

So I decided that this mod was by far the best one ever since all the parts have been in my house, the truck, or the garage. Only issue was finding time uninterrupted to work on it. Wow, what a great idea and relatively easy to do. Throwing sparks is fun with the angle grinder. IMG_0669.jpg IMG_0670.jpg IMG_0671.jpg
More to come as my skills are tested with the piano hinge. Love the "Ammunition for cannon with explosive projectiles. Might be a shame to cover that up.

Comet.
