Looks good!
That's probably my kind of rear bar, for non-rock-climbing stuff, and maybe even without the spare carrier.

Bloodhound,
Could you post 2-3 pix showing the whole truck, side and rear?
Just want to get a better impression of the look of it.
Details look great tho'.

John, If/when you get a chance, a similar picture of the rear view from inside the vehicle would be an interesting comparison.

Yes....you can have the blind spot directly behind you. It blocks a tailgater and that's about it.

Or, you can have a side carrier that incooperation with the rear quarter panel makes for a more dangerous lane change blind spot.

It's preference. Myself....I'll take the blind spot when I'm going straight (less danger). I want the visibility when making a lane change.

Another point of view

Here's some photo's from more of a distance. I don't think it's as lightweight as some might think. I wouldn't hesitate to put the weight of truck on and where the original tow hitch had a total of 6 frame bolts and 2 cross member bolts this bumper has 10 frame bolts and 2 cross member bolts. I'll certainly find out! :flipoff2: By the way although I went to ARB's warehouse I called and purchased through Slee Offroad.

I don't have an 80 with a 35 to compare. My tire is a 35. This has been debated often. It's just preference. No one right or wrong on this one.

I was talking about the 100-series with the Slee center-mounted, view from inside the truck looking back.

Oh, I know. I just don't have an 80 with a 35" tire back there to compare to. Comparing ARB 100 with a 33 to my Slee with a 35 isn't a match. The 35 will cut down 1" above and 1" to each side of tire compared to a 33.
Is that what you want a pic of?

Despite the Hi-Lift, I just prefer the tire in the middle and the added view to the sides.

If the car is small I can just see it's roof at a stop light. The 2nd car back I see OK.

The depth of field on this pic is altered because I'm elevated to the road. That's why it looks the way it does.

Also, IMHO the long swing arm that runs the full-width of the bumper makes it more problematic to open when parallel parked and someone is parked behind you.

Just FYI, our swing arm does not go accross the bumper all the way. Also, when we moved the 80 carrier from the side to the center, we only added 2" to thje length of the arm.

With the 100, and not wanting to put lights in the bumper, the center position was really the only option.

Gotcha Christo, thanks!

Question regarding install... Real time driveway action!

i am in the process of installing the sahara front bar and rear bar on my 2001 L/c, and I have run into a series of snafus that dont make much sense... The front bar is on, with some minro modifications to the mounting strip that fits into teh extrusion/ molding that fits between the bumper and body... the holes did not match up at all, so with a little field modifications :D , all is well.

Okay, so in the process of removing the trailer hitch, two of the bolts that are welded inside the rear members came loose:doh: Time for the sawzall....

The gist of my issue is coming from the wiring harness out of the rear bar... It does not seem to match any of the factory plugs that i can locate... Was it a direct plug in for you, and if so, where is the plug located under the truck? Also, i am havig a hell of a time trying to tighten the rear lights once the cover plate is installed... No access to keep the bolt from turning as i tighten the flange nut on the other side... Did you just crank it down before assembling?

That's it for now... T-Storm has preempted the rest of the install for tonight... Any feedback or insight would be awesome....

Beachcruiser, I just installed a Kaymar rear bar on my 100 and have found that the included harness also doesn't fit. From what I've learned from 100 owners in Australia, they get a 6-pin connected at the back of the fuel tank that is capped off (unused). I believe the trailers there have separate turning signals and brake lights while the ones here have the brake light and turning signal integrated into the same line (no amber turning signal on US trailers). We also use the 7-pin RV socket as the standard here while they use a 6-pin socket.

I also have the turning signal, brake, parking lamps in my Kaymar rear bar. It seems the easiest way is to buy a 2-3 converter, which converts USA left turn signal+ brake and right turn signal+brake to a left turn signal, right turn signal, and brake (3 signals instead of 2). The parking light isn't affected, so you run that straight through. I should be getting my converter early next week, will connect it next weekend. The other options are to get the turning signals just before they enter the trailer relay, located in the left quarter panel, blue plugs. They are way down there, so it'll be difficult to splice into those wires. Ditto w/ splicing directly into the tail lamps (you'd have to do both sides to get left/right turn signals). The grommet where the wires exit is just way too inaccessible. So my conclusion was the converter box was the lesser of the evils. I certainly didn't want to tap off the harness externally after it exists the grommet (this is what the installer did to Siglo's rear bar)...just too much weather down there by the wheels. I had to go further and purchase a new trailer socket and bracket since there's minimal space w/ the kaymar rear bar. It's really designed for the Aussie socket, in which you drill a small hole at the bottom of the bar. The US sockets are way too big...you'd have to drill a 2" hole!

BTW, I also installed a Sahara bar on my LX recently...have both front and rear bars painted to match the body. The LX bars don't have any rubber stripping between the bar and body. The body has a metal lip that tucks under the bar. I used a floor jack w/ 2x4 to hold the bar in the right position, then hit the six 18mm bolts w/ an impact w/ swivel socket by lowering it into where the winch control box would go. Otherwise, it would have been impossible to get the bar lined up w/ the body myself w/o a helping hand.

Does the ARB have optional mounts for rear-facing retractable spikes and oil-spray nozzles (plus pump/reservoir & wiring)?

Those are the options that will compel me to buy one.

:)

No, this stuff is all custom only:D Heck, your name is Tinkerer, you should be able to handle it;)

Thanks for the response....

I basically have it all together with the exception of the wiring and the wheel carrier on the rear bumper... The wire loom looks like it may similar to what you are describing for the Aussie units... I would be interested if Bloodhound had the same issue with his install or whether I might be missing a plug/ connector somewhere just out of sight... I may just go ahead and burn the midnight oil and tackle it tonight... Get the driveway set up with some light and a huge fan to keep the mosquitos away and I should be good to go!:grinpimp:
